Hey guys, I've been racking my head over whether or not I should start expanding into Forgeworld for my Necrons. I love the Crons, and their new codex is brilliant in my eyes. I also like the idea of running the Dark Harvest lists, because a Flayed One themed army seems awesome now that Flayed Ones are actually playable.

I also love the Tesseract Ark, the Stalker/Sentinel, and especially the Nightshroud Bomber. However, these units seem so....bad compared to everything in the game now.

First and foremost, Dark Harvest appears as though it would need heavy House Ruling to make it workable, as far as special rules and point costs. And even then, the base codex made most of that stuff better.

Then the units:

The Acanthrites - Decent statline, and they have Meltas, which Necrons lack. But, their Meltas suck in general, and they have no invuln and a low number of attacks. Being more expensive than Wraiths kinda sucks. Wraiths just seem better.

Tesseract Ark - Got nerfed with the new Codex. No longer treated as AV14, so it's essentially a Ghost Ark with better guns, and can't jink. For it's price point? Eeesh. Such an awesome model, though.

Tomb Stalker/Sentinel - Yet another MC that Necrons have that is over costed and not too durable. Essentially the same survivability as a C'Tan, with no invuln, and it's really only CC oriented (in an edition which CC sucks). The Sentinel is interesting, though I'd rather the Exile Ray be updated to be more like the new Beamer rule from the codex.

Nightshroud - This one actually seems solid, and I'm very tempted to order one. AV12 on a flyer is no joke, and those bombs are nasty. A bit expensive, mind you, but still.

Pylons - I'd love to have these for Terrain, if anything. And they have some nice weaponry, but their price, especially for a full battery. Eesh. They'd also easily be Scatterbiked off the board.

So yeah, with all of that being said, I'm not entirely sure if they're worth buying into. The bomber, maybe, but everything else? I wouldn't really even want to buy the book for them, as I'm hoping it's updated sometime soon.

What do you guys think? Does anyone actually use the Necron Forgeworld stuff anymore? And if so, have you had any success with it?

Pylons can be good with the Death ray things. One tactic is to attach Obyron to them, have them Deep Strike up the board near Zahndrekh who has changed his Warlord trait to Implaccable Conquerer to give them Relentless. Obyron can tank to a degree with his 2+ save and reanimation. They are good vs knights as well as bike armies which can't jink, but WKs will rape them with D.

I'm also curious about the night shroud bomber,. That model looks amazing. Anyone have any experience with it.

I don't own any necron FW models but I was looking into it before the new codex came out. One thingI have too say about it is that the new codex made some models redundant.

Take the ancharites for instance. Before the new codex, they were more expensive than Wraiths but they were good because they had T5. New codex gave Wraiths T5 anyway so they basicly became more expensive wraiths that had a gun that was a bit better. I don't know if their rules got updated since.

You don't have to be happy when you lose, just don't make winning the condition of your happiness.

I don't think any of the rules have been updated, and I'm not sure when they will be.

Their rules aren't as great as the new Crons, but if you like the models and want to expand, I say buy them. Save them for when you play against armies who aren't top tier (CSM, ork, DE, BA, etc.). Your opponent will thank you for it and it's always fun to play/play against new units/rules.

The book will hopefully not have to wait too long for an update, I would wait till then. Nonetheless the models are great, and as you say the Nightshroud bomber still not bad rules-wise. Get the bomber, wait for the rules to be updated for the rest.

Necrons are one of the armies that gets the short end of the FW stick. Their goodies don't really match up to other armies goodies.

We'll see what happens when they get updated. In the meantime, the only thing that's worth a bit is the Heat Ray Pylons.

I have Gauss Sentry Pylons that haven't been fielded since 7th broke the Skyfire-Interceptor link

I used to LOVE that loadout to. 7th made them almost useless, if not entirely so.

Your best bet is to proxy them with similar sized models and try them out in games. This is what I do before dropping money on a FW order.

Acanthrites look amazing, but break if you look at them wrong and perform horribly for their point cost. 50 pts. per model for something that can be easily replaced with wraiths or even Praetorian's for similar effect.

The Tesseract Ark is incredibly fun to play, but only in friendly games. The points cost of 250 per model as well as the fragility of vehicles means they have no real place in a game you are trying to win. It is a model that grows on you though, I like it more every time I use it.

The tomb stalker works wonders against troops, and not much else, it scares opponents so it quickly becomes a target. Out of all the times I've played them I have only made it into combat twice. Fantastic looking model, absolute pain in the ass to build though. you will never complain about building other necron models again.

No experience with the sentinel

The Nightshroud bomber is a bit pricey since the standard necron flyers perform exceptionally by themselves, however it does amazing things and, again, can be great fun to play.

Pylons. The actual Pylon only really belongs in an apocalypse game since the nerf of skyfire-interceptor. Otherwise unless you know you are facing flyers or loads of deepstriking it mostly serves as terrain. Albeit very pretty terrain.
The sentry pylon depends on the weapon you use. I've tabled a 3000 point tau army in 2 turns using a unit of 3 with an attached cryptek using the death rays(I laughed, a lot. he cried, also a lot). But they are situational.

The book itself has a large fluff section so if you can get it cheap I would recommend it for that alone.

Why is it not yet the 21st century of the 20th century? I want my flying car!

So, what are peoples opinions on the Apoc Pylon? I suddenly got a craving for it, but the rules seem a little...lackluster for it's points cost.

FW basically needs to go forth and update everything. The Deathray Sentry Pylons are still pretty killer and can still strut their stuff (Anrakyr DOES have a use in a competitive list, guys!), but Kutlakh needs a severe point cut, the Flayed Ones need updating as well as Flensing Scarabs (I think Rending first round of combat would be fantastic and not broken), the other Pylons need an errata (the Gauss Cannon one especially), and the Tomb Stalker and Sentinel need a minor buff.
