So I often got to deal with tau and who i play against allwasy takes a storm surge a rip tide, 3-4 units of marker-lights, XV8 Crisis Battlesuit 2-3 XV88 Broadside Battlesuit, and unfortunately sometimes TAU KX139 TA'UNAR SUPREMACY ARMOUR, then set of firewarriors

what he tends to do is
put Supremacy armour in the very back at the middle and surround it with a ring of firewarrios, put the storm surge in the far corner, and always put the anchors down same with crisis suits, hides the marker-lights in cover makes them do there job and runs the riptide around, and just sits back and shoots all big and D weapons into me removing my reanimation or +1 the rolls.

Whats best way around this with nec's, i got abit of everything minus forge-world and a tesseract vault though i do have a obelisk and a c'tan, as pissed of losing lol. fine against grey nights, or space marines or demons, just always had problem with tau.

often 1500- 2000 points games

thanks

Well, your opponent is officially That Guy by the sound of it. Main thing you've gotta do is get close and then tie down the big guys. Killing them is secondary to rendering them ineffective.

If he's got a Ta'unar, Stormsurge, Riptide and 2-3 Broadsides at 2000 points, he's only got 600ish points of anything else. Sounds like he probably has reliable AA with the Broadsides and Stormsurge, so I'd steer clear of Night/Doom Scythes.

What you probably want is spam. As many units as you can muster. If most of his shots are D blasts, skip the Decurion and go CAD or even unbound (sounds like he's unbound). If most of his shots aren't both D and blasts, go Decurion (because Relentless and Move Through Cover are critical), take as many individual units as you can, and try to have some things like Triarch Pretorians, Wraiths, etc to tie up his fire. Ghost Arks are a good idea, too, and Jink like crazy if they're not marked. Use Deathmarks or other deep strikers to get at and annihilate the markers - Flayed Ones might be a good idea too. And above all, keep on trucking straight ahead to lock down or kill his big stuff. The Transcendent C'Tan's D power is unreliable, but hilarious if you can make it work. I wouldn't, though.

Remember, even a 5+ Reanimation can save a surprising number of guys, and don't be afraid to pop rez orbs. Get cover, or a Cryptek with a Chronometron if you can.

Everything you can destroy or staple down is one more thing you don't have to worry about. Necrons aren't very killy in melee, but Tau are legendarily atrocious at it, and Necrons can last like nobody else, so get in there and lock 'em down. Fire Warriors will die in a hurry, and few markerlight platforms are durable. Skyrays have AV13, but Warriors/Immortals will rip them apart; Pathfinders are squishy Guardsmen-equivalents; Marker Drones are no tougher than Warriors without RP.

Versus Tau the more Wraiths you have the better.

Deepstriking a Lychstar with a Solar Staff is also a solid plan.

Fast and tough assaulty stuff. Run those to their back line. Profit.

If your list still loses add more Wraiths.

3 units of Cano Harvest wraiths and 1 Orikan Lych star

Veil drop and put pressure on Tau early, getting into combat ASAP is key to not getting shot up even with necron durability. Honestly with so many 3++ saves and 4+ res, it will be a tough match up for most Tau lists, the only thing Necrons has to worry about are D shots rolling 6s.

Necrons are BOSS in most NOVA missions, but not so much for Maelstrom/ITC.

Ta'unar? Ah... he's THAT guy then.

Ta'unar is a titan-equiv model. You arent suppose to use it in small games, even though nothing prevents it outside house rules. Hes a bit of a prick for fielding it 2k or less points.

Only thing i can think of necrons have that can kill a Ta'unar is a ton of wraiths rolling 6s to wound. One thing necrons seem to be missing is a big thing of their own worth taking.

If he didnt have the Ta'unar i'd say just swarm him with warriors/immortals. Thats the main thing my necrons friends do to me and GOD does it piss me off lol. But i dont field a 7" D template that will remove a squad of warriors and then some every turn with no chance to save it on your end (2ML = no cover save even if i dont roll a 6)

An ork with an idea tends to end with a bang.
