Hey guys I'm new here and I'm looking to start up a small 500 pt tau army. What are your recommendations for Units? I currently have 3 pathfinders and 16 fire warriors. Just wondering if I should use those or just start over. Thanks!

It depends on what kind of army you're looking to build. If you want a predominantly Infantry army, then you're off to a good start. If you want a predominantly Suit army, then you'll have to start a new

3 fusions piranhas and 2 squads of 8 fire warriors isn't a bad place to start. Get a HQ you like and some pathfinders and that's not a bad starter army.

Infantry as in fire warriors or infantry as in battlesuits?

Pulse Rifle Strikers are probably the go to troops choice. They'll mow down anything up to a wraith knight with enough of them and decent markerlight support.

Pathfinders were a must before the new Hunter Contingent and are still very useful, i'd take them in squads of 5 and at least one.

Id start by aiming for a basic hunter cadre and drone network and build from there. You shouldn't be able to go too wrong.

Fire warriors for infantry. Also in terms of drones, which drones should I place with wich unit and how many per unit as well? I mean gun drones vs shield drones vs markerlight drones.

I don't usually bother with drones because you need to pay for a shas'ui and then pay for the drone which is pretty expensive.

For breachers I take the fancy shield drone but breachers are usually so deep in the thick of it it doesn't make them last much longer.

If I were you, I would take cadre fireblade as HQ. He`s quite cheap but really great in a unit of FW. Also I would take 3 crisis suits. I think that most tau lists have at least one unit of them
