I was just wondering if anyone has tried stripping attack wing ships before repainting them. Some of the panel line details look a bit shallow on certain ships and I'd be hesitant to fill them in with even more paint. I've stripped prepaints before (WOTC star wars and d&d minis) and it's a pain but at least with those products was possible. On a side note, the plastic underneath was the same black color as the base FYI in Star Wars and D&D. If someone did try it (whether successfully or not), what cleaning/stripping agent did you use?

I had asked about this previously and been told by several they did not find a way to do it. I'll be following this to see if that changes.

Friend has been using it lately to remove paint from metal and plastic GW models. It does a good job but takes abut a week of emersion (check daily) and comes off with a old tooth brush. Doesn't seem to affect the GW plastic at all. This stuff is no joke and is very bad for your skin get latex or nitrile gloves.

I'd suggest you try it with a ship you have multiple of or don't care about since STAW ships are not made of GW grey plastic.

I appreciate the tips but have you used that on STAW ships? I too have used purple power on resin, metal, and plastic GW models (as well as simple green and brake fluid); about the only popular stripping agent I haven't used is "super clean" (castrol or otherwise). In my experience stripping prepainted minis is much more difficult though hence my question.

No I haven't, hence my suggestion. I have 10+ Klingon BOP so sacrificing one would not be a loss for me. Grab one you have a lot of, or has little value and experiment.

@Rune or anyone else with a sizeable and extensive wizkids trek minis collection:

Do the Attack Wing minis look/feel/smell/taste/etc the same as the Clix minis? Are they the same somewhat flexible rubbery PVCish plastic? I've found some videos about stripping clix minis (the superhero kind) but I don't have any experience to know whether it's the same type of material/paint. If it is, it looks like you can use acetone (simple nail polish remover that your lady friends likely have in their bathrooms) to strip Heroclix minis in literally seconds with no damage to the actual mini (at least in the short term... no idea if you just leave it soaking for hours or days like with simplegreen).

I'd say no the clix stuff is rather soft, compared to attack wing, but I wager they use the same kind of paint. Acetone would work at least on the paint. Acetone is also a fairly mild distillate, it might be the safe way to go.
