I have a small Tyranid army and am looking to expand to 1500 points (need about an extra 300 -450). and would like some suggestions!

I want to keep my army as close combat based as possible (for no reason other than fun)

the models i have so far are:

Swarm lord (285)

Carnifex (120)
modeled with: crushing claws (10), stranglethorne (15)

Ripper Swarm
(3 bases) (39)

Gene stealers x27 (178)
Broodlord (60)

Red Terror (unusable without raveners adding them would be good)

any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

Molive

Well, the Swarmy needs some Tyrant guard, and if you want to make it to contact, you'll want some Shrouding....

I'd also suggest a couple of Broods of Hormagaunts to bubble wrap, and they can CC fairly well...

So I suggest you get the Box of 'Thropes, and paint up some Venothropes, a Zoey, and add two 10 to 20x sized Broods of Hormagaunts. A Malanthrope would work even better, but it's FW. Toss in some Rippers to get Maelstrom points, then see how many points you have left.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
You could run the Stealers as a "Broodlords hunting pack" formation. And use Swarmy and his rowdy friends as a CAD.

As suggested for swarmy to have his guard, or you can throw him in a pod. Both are ok. Pod as long as comes in turn 2 (what should be a 2+ cause of swarmy) should distract the other team hopefully to save some shooting of the rest of your army as they advance.

My preferred CC monsters are a Flyrant with Reaper, Adrenal, and Old Adversary, and a Dimachaeron.

I played Nids for a while without Elites. Normally I suggest people pick the troops they like the most and build an army around that, but 7th may have changed that and nids have for the last few editions been Elite-centric.

I suggest you pick the elites that you like the most and move onward and upward from there. You can easily include 300 points of elites and only improve your army from where it is.

Right now the best choices for elites seem to be Lictors or Venomthropes.

Both of those work well with what you have and will help you decide what else to include as you build up.

Lictors- go nicely with the steelers allowing you to go to ground and then surprise synapse back up with the broodlord. They are also outstanding at guiding in the pods flukezor suggested. One for your fex and one for swarmy is another 150 pts. Also works well for the raveners you seem to want.

Venomthropes- will keep your stuff alive if you don't want to pod it in. Shroud is a great buff, and they are no slouches in combat themselves striking at the same initiative as the Lictors with 2+ poison. Still you will want to either stay in cover as much as possible or bubble wrap your MCs so they get their 3+ cover save. Raveners are good for the former, and hormagants are good for the latter.

The other elites choices are not as strong right now, though that could easily change. They are also shootier though, so there is that.

Hope that helps, cheers
