Subject: Best Chaos Lord Close Combat Builds?
|
 |
Troubled By Non-Compliant Worlds

Hey Ya'll,
I'm looking at kitting out a brutal Chaos Close combat lord for my tournament Night Lords list. He's gonna get dropped into a termy squad of 4 (3 LC's, 1 LC&PF), to either deep strike or ride the dreadclaw drop pod into the heart of the enemy. I mainly want him and this squad for cracking the hard nuts, so either bringing down armor (and maybe a knight) or slaughtering units that are difficult to remove from objectives. Currently I'm thinking of two builds:
1) Chaos Khornate Lord, Termy Armor, Sigil of Corruption, Daemon Axe of Khorne
2) Black Legion Slaaneshi Lord, Quicksilver Blade, Hand of Darkness, Sigil of Corruption, Mark of Slaanesh
I guess I'm wonder if D6 AP2 Str+2 attacks from the axe are better than the 2x Str Armourbane, Fleshbane, InstaKill of the Hand of Darkness.
Input is appreciated,

Don't forget the eternal warrior relic from black legion. Makes a palanquin of Nurgle Lord really tough with those two extra wounds.

The Hand Of Darkness is only one attack. That's it. It isn't as good as it seems, because you only have a 66% chance to actually hit with that attack in most situations.

This is what's primarily scaring me off from it.. Just wasn't sure if anyone else had any success with it.

Well if you can somehow get a reroll on that, it has a pretty good chance of hitting though. But for armour it's still kinda meh. You're more likely to simply trip off a single hullpoint than anything. In that case you'd be better off getting chainfists on the termies, since you plan on taking termies anyway. Automatically Appended Next Post: What's the point budget on this lord and the termies?

Like I've always said: if you're taking a Terminator Lord, it might as well be Typhus.

That depends on the budget available, and the slaanesh lord doesn't have termie armour so I take it that the termie armour is optional. Also typhus doesn't exactly scream Night Lords lol.

If you can, I'd look at the wargear from Crimson Slaughter. All of it.
Like a Tzeentch Lord with Blade of the Relentless, The Slaughterer's Horns, Daemonheart, Sigil of Corruption, and Disc of Tzeentch with a squad of Bikers/Spawn
Or a Nurgle Lord, Same loadout, but on a Bike.
If you're looking to be more Night Lordy, You could stick homeboy with a Jump Pack instead and have him fly around with some Raptors.

Crimson Slaughter
Lord- MoT, LFist and PClaw, Daemonheart, Sigil
Sorc- MoT, Sigil, Lv. 3 with familiar or Balestar
3x Oblits- MoT
The retinue is 6W 2+4++, and obviously has huge firepower and versatility. Lord is 2+3++ IWND, Sorceror can go for biomancy or get the Balestar and go Div, depending on your opponent (survive or more dakka). Either way take a force ax and everyone in the unit ID's T4 and below, Axe ID's bigger stuff.
You can lose the Mark of Tzeentch. It's really only for the lord to get the 3++, and then you can take it or not on the Oblits. They draw AP 2 alot, I find it useful. It's a lot of points to save though, so worth considering.

Wow, this is a pretty awesome build I hadn't even considered, especially with Oblits already in my army, this would free up points from the termies.

I have been using Lord, MoN, PF, LC, Sigil, Bike for 165pts. I try not to have him face off with real HQ ccw specialists. I primarily have him bully weak hq and sergeants and hit non walker vehicles.
He is not unbeatable but he doesnt cost much.
