Hello All! I have a list that is generated partially out of a simple love for the ships involved, but also as a legitimate attempt at a working list. Here it is:

2x TIE Bombers: 46 points
Scimitar Squadron Pilot
Plasma Torpedoes
Cluster Rockets

2x TIE Interceptors: 42 points
Saber Squadron Pilot

TIE Fighter: 12 points
Academy Pilot

As for planning, the two Bombers would serve to attack heavily shielded targets first with the plasma torpedoes in an attempt to eat up as much enemy shielding as possible. The Cluster Rockets would then be for the inevitable close range engagements to follow.

The two Interceptors serve as escorts and dog fighters. Frankly they are serving as Saber Squadron Pilots because the Imperial Aces expansion is all I have at the moment for Interceptors. I will be expanding my collection though so less expensive/other unique pilots are not out of the question.

TIE Fighter is fodder. What a guy!

So... at all viable? Open to suggestions as always. I've considered either getting a cheaper Interceptor pilot and using the available points to upgrade one of the Bombers to Captain Jonus, and/or dropping the TIE Fighter in exchange for a more elite Interceptor. Thoughts on the list as is and possible changes?

You say Fiery Crash! I say Dynamic Entry!

*Increases Game Point Limit by 100*: Tau get two Crisis Suits and a Firewarrior. Imperial Guard get two infantry companies, artillery support, and APCs.

Not viable. Interceptors without PTL are terrible, and the bombers are questionable at best. You'll struggle to get target locks on the right ships at PS 2, your plasma torps are often going to be wasted because your PS 4 interceptors have already removed your target's shields, and you have a pretty good chance of losing bombers with unfired missiles. And since you have no high-PS ships you're extremely vulnerable to ace lists. Lose a bomber and Soontir Fel alone can probably finish off the rest of your list.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

For Range 3 shots, anyway. because you can move in close, cluster missiles aren't a bad choice if you want generic bombers with missiles.

I'd probably rather take Extra Munitions (which also comes with the K-wing and punisher) and double-load them than take plasma torpedoes, for the reasons given above.

That saves you a point per bomber and makes them a lot less fiddly - otherwise you need to try and land within range 3 (to get your target lock) without letting your opponent dart in to range 1 (within the torpedoes minimum range).

If all you have are imperial aces, then there are some good named pilots in there. Whilst a lot of people (for good reason) default to Soontir Fel, there's nothing wrong with Carnor Jax (who you should have available) - used right his 'no focus or evade' bubble can be lethal - especially if you can drop a pilot inside it at the same point he eats a face full of cluster missiles. Note that Jax doesn't have to be firing at that target himself, just near them; flank him wide and try to come in from the side or behind - avoiding arcs with him is far more important than actually getting a shot.

It's not just the long-range target lock problem. You also have to worry about whether or not your target will be in arc after they've moved (and boosted and/or barrel rolled), whether any of your other ships will kill the target before you can fire your missiles, etc.
