Does Drop Pods actually Deepstrike or do they use a seperate set of rules (that look a bit like the Deepstrike-rules)?

The only implication of using the Deepstrike-rules are the fact that the Pods are allowed to be used even if the Deepstrike-rules are not in effect.

What say you?

Read the Drop Pod rules. Do they ever say that they deep strike?

They do not deepstrike. They have their own rules that are similar to deepstrike, but they always work (in standard missions) and have less chance of drifting off course.

Pods don't deepstrike. They land...hehe. Seriously though, no it isn't anywhere in the description that they deepstrike. Capt K

The reason I ask is that people often refer to Inquisitors and their retinue targeting Drop Pods with Mystics. This doesnt seem to be possible after all.

It depends if you're using the Eye of Terror FAQ or not.

Im sorry. Where in the EoT FAQ does it say anything about Pods?

On the GW Forums (aka the Eye of Terror), there's a thread "40K Rules Clarifications from Pete Haines".

If your group plays with those as being official, then that answers your question.

@Centurion, If it is not too much to ask, can you give us the "Eye of Terror" ruling? I try my hardest to avoid the GW Forums.

Thanks in advance

The ruling was that the Mystic allows you to target either the Drop Pod or the Unit, chosen once the pod has actually landed.

Mind you, the same FAQ claimed that Black Templars didn't have Drop Pods, and that Familiars, despite being a seperate model, can somehow Deep Strike and keep up with a Librarian with a bike or jump pack. So take it with a grain of salt.

Ah, it's all becomming clear.
How long ago was that (useless but interesting) EoT FAQ updated?

I have nothing useful to add.

Just after the release of the Marine Codex. There was talk of it eventually being incorprated into the official FAQs (and some of it did at least make it into the Wargear book) but then GW came out with their incredibly intelligent 'We don't want to release FAQs because they confuse the gamers' idea and nothing has been done since.

I'm sure the reasoning went something like "We won't update FAQ as everyone on Dakka complains about our rulings." But of course I'm sure that complaining had NOTHING to do with the piss poor quality of the last set they released (that seemed to create more problems than it solved).

Wow, BloodyT and Snoogums must be taking the weekend off.  I thought for sure they'd be here saying that drop pods do deep strike.

Trust me, no matter what damage they have the potential to do, single-shot weapons always flatter to deceive in 40k.                                                                                                       Rule #1

So if you take the FAQs that say "these aren't official" as official, then you're good to go, right?

They're as officialy unofficial as the official in charge requires them to be for his officiating. In fact they're unofficialy official but only as far as the officiating official is willing to enforce them.
And they make as much sense as what I just posted.

I have nothing useful to add.

How do people even find these 4 year old threads without having a similar question to ask?
Do they search for a fairly common question they have the answer to or something?

The search function puts the oldest results first. So people just click the first return without checking the date.
