You kind of need to give more info than this. What are you looking to do with them? How skilled a painter are you? Do you want easy street paint schemes or something more complicated?

If you dont short hand your list, Im not reading it.
Example: Assault Intercessors- x5 -Thunder hammer and plasma pistol on sgt.
or Assault Terminators 3xTH/SS, 2xLCs
For the love of God, GW, get rid of reroll mechanics. ALL OF THEM!

Like Col. Dash said, we need more info. How do you like to play? how long do you want to take to paint the army? how much are you willing to spend to make it a playable army?

I'll never be able to repay CA for making GW realize that The Old World was a cash cow, left to die in a field.

I like Word Bearers for the modelling aspect. They are a great army for conversions, and most anything released for Space Marines, Chaos Space Marines, and Chaos Daemons can be used for modelling somehow. Modelling is probably my favorite part of the hobby.

I do my own color scheme as I'm not fond of the red/chrome/black, so painting-wise just depends on your scheme. As with any arm, it can be as easy or hard as you make it.

For rules, Word Bearers have alot of ways you can take them, good special characters, a feeling of uniqueness with all the Daemon Marine stuff and Daemon allies.

It's a really fun army to model and play with IMO.

If I didnt choose Word Bearers , I'd probably play Iron Warriors for the cool Havoc squads and termjnators, or maybe go Salamanders because I like their colors and fluffy rules.

Yup, "fluffy rules" of being Death Guard -1

Anywho, Death Guard are fantastic, and I swear I'm not biased.

1.Immune to Fear and auto-pass pinning checks, and a LOVE for "infantry spam"
2.FREE shred on your flamers (Soo much better then +1 strength ) though they do get hot
3.Force successful poison and fleshbane wounds to REROLL TO WOUND
4. A relic that causes -1 T WITHIN 6"! Oh? what's that? you're T:5? well, now that I'm next to you, enjoy being T: 4. Better yet (when paired with the Legion RoW) you cause -2 T the first round of combat. Against marines, That makes everyone in the squad almost always wound on a 2+!
5. Terminator squads as both HQs (Deathshroud), and Heavy Support! (Grave Warden)

With the DG RoW:
1.only 1 fast attack (1/3 of the limitations)
2.No deep strikes (2/3 of the limitations)
3.No running, No flat outs (3/3, the big one)
4.heavy support teams and Vet. tacticals as troops (Scoring ML teams! Objective stealing Heavy Flamer squads!)
5."army wide" move through cover? yes please
6.Every character can buy RAD GRENADES! (RAD GRENADES! otherwise known as that thing that LETS YOU WRECK FACE in the first round of combat) Nothing beats charging a unit with your tactical blob, and then getting to look at your opponents face as you tell them that their squad is at -1 T.

also, Cool color scheme.

In summary:
1) THE BEST TERMINATOR SPAMS
2) Toughness shenanigans!
3) Dakka of doom!
4) Our most fluffy unit is a 20-man tactical squad with Apothecary, and extra CCWs, our second most fluffy unit is multiple squads of terminators, what's not to love?

I wouldn't say the best terminators. I think IW has claim to the best along with a special characters to enhance them. Come on, a ten man squad with all cyclone missile launchers? Shooting 20 frags it makes a squad of marines pretty much disappear a turn from 48", even terminators.

10 2-wound terminators with S: 5, AP: 2 weapons, and rending hand flamers for 10-points over regular terminator cost
OR
10 cataphractii terminators with Cool grenade launchers, powerfists base, and special rules to make charging them terrible for you (counts as going through dangerous terrain, AND you are forced to be dissorganized) for the SAME point cost as regular terminators.

also, at most, we can field 150 terminators (pride of the legion force, 30 in HQ, 60 in troop, 30 in Elite, and 30 in Heavy Support), and have in "in fluff" claim to "used terminators way to often" according to FW books

Tyrants are nice but they cost a lot more, and Golg only makes terminators troops (a buff, but not much) and THEN us DG get to ignore your shrapnel bolts

Blood Angels, Ultrasmurfs or Death Guard.

Blood Angels have yet to get a full army list etc, so that could be a 'sleeper' - the whole 'red thirst' thing isn't until after sanguinius dies so the new fluff and rules could be really really nice. I get the feeling that they will have the BA as 'saviours' rather than blood obsessed emo teens which will be awesome!
I always felt that BA were a little too 'science-fantasy' in 40k and they may end up being the true 'good guys' of the HH - Sanguinius knows he's going to die yet goes to meet his death anyway - self sacrifice and fearless in death where some of his brother primarchs succumbed to the ruinous powers when given the same fate.
They will probably be CC focused.

Ultrasmurfs have the dubious honour of being 'an marine' in 40k with nothing to really define them from 'vanilla' apart from some HQ choices.
This is sorted out in 30k - The master of signals being able to take a second damocles command rhino as his DT is intresting and their upgrade helmets look really cool!
I like the concept of a fluffy UM army - loads of 20 man tactical squads and 10 man support squads supported by sicarians of differing flavours.

Death Guard are pretty much how i see legionnaires - en masse, bolters blazing and keep advancing. Ignore the casualties, and keep walking through the fire.
I like the loyalist death guard personally - there's an element of tragedy and solemnity about them.
Crysos Morturg got extracted from the planet by Calleb Decima (Ordo Reductor ftw!) and gave testimony to the high lords of terra about the betrayal - latent psyker, isstvan survivor, now blackshield and pissed off!

A good indicator for you will be what you make of isstvan 3 - not the drop site massacre on isstvan 5.
I found that loyalist traitors had an element of pride and class about them after reading the fluff of book one: betrayal - i like World Eaters, Death Guard and Emperors Children.
It may be worth waiting for the 'shattered legions' and 'blackshields' lists in the next book though...
I hope this helps!

Working on it

Brennon, you almost convinced me to play DG... I applaud

Can anyone give an in depth look at the IW or AL (I like the 1K Sons but there stuff isn't out yet)

I'm also looking at starting a legion but with the plan of using it as 30k/40kCSM/40kSM
What legion would best fit that or all they all equal?

And to stay on topic the legion I recommend you paint is either the SoH or AL

<Dynasty> ~10500pts
War Coven of the Coruscating Gaze ~3000pts
Thrice-Damned Plague Corps ~3250pts
Admech (TBN) ~3500pts +30k Bots and Ulator

IW:
1. Your opponent can FORCE you to play untill turn 6 (cough Imperial fist cough )
2. You do not take Ld Checks from shooting, reroll Pinning checks ( I WISH I had the first half of this, the second half I have but better )
3. ALL grenades and melta bombs have wrecker (good lord, and here we though vehicles were easy to destroy normally)
4. The IW warsmith is awesome! he lets you bring mechanicum stuff just for taking him, he can gets stubborn and can give -1 to cover saves in a chosen terrain section.

IW RoW:
1. RAPID FIRE AND CHARGE! OH YEAH! so what if it's a dissorganized charge, its cool!
2. All tanks/walkers get extra armor for free, 'cause who needs crew stunned?
3. you get 1 extra HS slot (MOAR TANKS!)
4. 1 extra compulsory troop, you cannot have more FA then HS
5. NO allied marines (bring mechanicum, laugh at your opponents tears)

note: heavy bolters can get pinning for free, which is leagues better in 30k (since it actually matters)
1. Tyrant Siege Terminators: Fun terminator squad in which everyone has whirlwind MLs as good as they sound, though a full 10-man squad will run a little over 500 points
2. Iron Havocs: Have Tank hunter, and cause -1 to cover saves, I like them with Autocannons (I like everything with autocannons, so do with that as you will) MLs are also really good on them.

AL:

what's AL? that's not a legion.

1. Specialist weapon daggers (more power fist/ paragon blade attacks on the cheap!
2. Mutable tactics: no one can predict you, because (so long as you are not useing the legion RoW) you have a bunch of different rules every game.
3. Martial hubris: If you loose more units then your opponent, you sulk in a corner and give the other guy +1 VP
4. You have grenades that give you Hammer of Wrath

AL RoW:
1. You get to kidnap other legion's special units and do with them as you please
2. Everything needs to be in a transport, deepstrike, or infiltrate( thanks to Mutable tactics. Sadly, this approach makes your army fairly predictable) the one major flaw :(
3. +1 to go first OR seize, you choose. A great way to bother your opponent.
4. -1 to enemy reserves, A great way to bother drop pod lists, or mechanicum lists, or other lists in general.
5. MUST have 3 required troops
6. no allies/fortifications, Only 1 console (beyond vigilators)

Other stuff:
1. you can get 18" bolters that have "rending" (up to AP: 3, not AP: 2)
2. Your special terminators have more WS, and can take conversion beamers as special weapons ( I love this unit, and I think more people need to use them)
3. You have special head-hunting men who have prefered enemy (infantry)

All in all: they are both good, with AL being more CC/tricky

I'll never be able to repay CA for making GW realize that The Old World was a cash cow, left to die in a field.

If you just want a challenging color scheme to paint do the imperial fists 1st company. Black and yellow....

Edit: Iron havoc with missile launchers is league better because your AA misses have tank hunter and reduce cover saves by one (this includes junk saves)

The krak missiles are more of a threat to av13 then autocannons also.

On my test models I have found IF very easy to make look good. Alpha Legion is by far the most difficult paint scheme in 30k with their whole metallic color look. I have only seen a few who can pull it off and 90% of them are air brushing. I consider myself an above average painter and AL is a challenge for me with brushes and only recently did I get a test model where I like it after almost 3 years of trying off and on. The rest of the legions are fairly normal paint difficulty for marines. Coming up with an acceptable color for SoH can be challenging. Loyalists, NL and IW didn't change much from their 40k versions.

IW fit the whole massed infantry advancing thing. Rumor has it the upcoming RoW if it is to be believed pushes this even more with two additional compulsory troop choices. In my regular list I run two 20 man squads and two vet squads as standard backed up by 10 Tyrants with a siege breaker. I suppose IF could do this as well. One of the IW special characters emphasizes the whole fortification thing while the other is a terminator guy.
