Terrifying Wraith

Hey guys, in looking to start a haemonculus coven tactics guide here. I've only played a few games with them but I'll go over what I think and people can chime in.

Haemonculus: your HQ/warlord and he's quite good for what you get being fearless the entire game! I think he works better in grots than wracks, four grots and him in a raider has great manoeuvrability and hits with a bang.

Grots: these guys are really good for what you pay for!! T5 guys as your bread and butter guys is as good as you can ask for. Solid amount of attacks and initiative too. I like the idea of mid sized squads so they can go in raiders. A ten man squad is extremely expensive for a squad that will take all day getting somewhere.

Wracks: I don't like them, if they could slam some heavy weapons then they'd be great but with only one in five I just can't see the reasoning in taking these guys.

Talos: your big bad monster who suffers from the same limitations most monstrous creatures have...speed. Moving six inches means it'll take you a while to be doing something. I personally like the haywire blaster/ichor injector combo. This gives the army some badly needed anti tank in the shooting phase and you can ID models without smashing. Can be taken in units of 1-3 and I've found units of 2 do quite well without using a massive footprint!

Cronos: the talos little brother. Less ws/I/A/S than the talos but you don't take him for combat!! Although being a monstrous creature he is still ap2 and can smash! You take him for the spirit probe which gives plus one to all pain engine FnP withing 6"!

Artifacts: I only find two of them to be worth taking the strings and the nightmare doll! The sump let's you choose between fleet, iwnd, poisoned 4+ and rampage each turn. The way it's written you can spam whichever one you find most useful!! The doll adds 1 to the haemonculus FnP rolls and the first ID wound he takes is discarded. I use the sump very game and I throw in the doll to entice my opponent to waste a high strength shot at him. The vexator mask would be really good but haemonculus isn't a combat beatstick by any means so going first doesn't help him out as much as you want. It can be useful though when you are in a challenge against a very good character and your grots are swinging before him.

Overall I think this is a low tier book that has numerous horrible match ups, considering it has no way of dealing with flyers or psykers! It is however an extremely fun list to play and is a nice challenge compared to playing marines or eldar

Here's my thoughts:

and a Battle Report a guy did with me:

My impressions over time:
You have to addres the AV 12 issue. Dreadnoughts are highly dangerous to your Dark hide. Storm Raven Blood Angels will laugh at your army when they hit the ground. Might kill you to do it but putting Scissor hands on the unit leaders is probably going to have to happen in a PURE Coven list.

Grotesques are boss. You're absolutely doing it right if you put them in a Raider with a Haemonculus. I think an Agonizer is a big deal for them. Aethersails for the win.

Corpsthief Claw with its Scout rule is a big deal. Getting Victory Points for smashing little dudes? Big bonus. Haywires are pretty cool on them. I am a fan. here again: watch out for those multi-Dreadnought units and if they ever get to you, SMASH all the way. Don't bother with normal attacks. You need to destroy those stinkers and reduce their number of attacks as fast as possible.

Ossefactor is probably not a bad way to go on the Wracks. I have tried all the weapons they have access to and the only ones I truly recommnd is the ossefactor and Hex Rifle even though honestly, going minimalist with them is just as good an idea. they actually do have some nice punch with Poison and three attacks on the charge.

Hold out bait to entice the enemy. Feign disorder, and then crush him.
