First attempt at a 2500 point list for Luna Wolves (Sons of Horus). Ullannor Crusade / Pre-Istvaan inspired. I want to be "good guys." Also, wanted to keep things cheap(ish) by using as much out of the Calth set as I can. 30 marines from Calth, Convert the chaplain into Loken (toothbursh helmet and cape already a good start), use the terminators (for now). Possibly pick up a few more dudes from ebay etc to convert into the heroes and other elites like Destroyers. Being pre-heresy and all I figured they could be a little more bland/uniform and not as crazy Sons of Horus brutal (yet). Plan to convert regular drop pods into the Assault Claw variant.

Black Reaving isn't that great a rule, but it can help me tip the favor when my tacticals make it into combat. Also, due to be SoH my reserves rolls of 1 can be re-rolled. So that helps my pods come in whenever I need them, or bring on a Sicaran or other squad if I decide to hold them in reserve or something.

Going for a mix of fluff and power. Tryign to keep it infantry heavy and relatively cheap $$ wise. (This is Forge World so I understand it's expensive no matter what).

TOTAL: 2500

Idea here is that the tacticals and Sicarans march / roll up the table as a core force. Put the apothecaries in here to help mitigate wounds on first rounds of combat before the rest of the army arrives. The drop pods of termies, destroyers, and reavers coming in via drop pod will give me a pretty precise drop on whatever needs to be killed. Destroyers are just nasty, especially with the ability to land and deliver their payload relatively accurately thanks to the dreadclaw. Termies are whatever... they're termies. Reavers I am a bit worried about as they are essentially expensive vets. Hope to use them as a more support / counter charge unit with Loken. Plus, Banestrike can help neutralize enemy campers or heavy weapon squads hopefully. We will see.

A few questions: Is it fluffy? Does this feel like Luna Wolves. Not sure Destroyers are the fluffiest choice, but they are just really cool. Same with the Moritat. Also, do you think I have enough anti-tank? Two Sicarans isn't a whole lot of high strength, and besides assaults and the occasional power axe/chainfist I don't have much.

But then again, Luna Wolves during Ulannor are fighting Orks... not exactly breaking down fortresses. Thoughts?

First off, Nice to see another Luna Wolves Player! I too am playing the pre heresy/loyalists and been doing up my two BaC sets as such.

IT feels fluffy, though honestly I am not a fan of the dreadclaws just because I want more boots on the ground then anything so I use normal drop pods or rhinos.

I know with the next HH book justerian termis are going up to two wounds so the will be worth using.

"I was never a Son of Horus. I was and remain a Luna Wolf. A proud son of Cthonia, a loyal servant of the Emperor."

Recasts are like Fight Cub. No one talks about it, but more people do it then you realize.

Check with the Apothecaries entry, but I don't think thy can be thrown in with Destroyers.

Double checked and yes they can join Legion Destroyer Squads... it seems odd, yes, but I guess someone has to keep them in fighting shape especially considering how many chems and rad grenades they're exposed to. That Apothecary has got his work cut out for him.
