So I am just getting back into the game and have yet to pick up the 7th edition rule book but I do have some questions regarding formations and normal codex units.

So I will be playing space marines and want to take the Battle Company "cuz free transports" but other then that I want to be a bit more open and use more single units. such as a single land raider or other options.
To do this would I have the Battle Company be my primary and then have to basically make a new space marine detachment with a base of 2 troops 1 HQ plus whatever else I wanted to such as a land raider.

So it would look something like this?
Primary, Papa smurf's boys
1 Battle Company
(and All the transports)
Spoiler:

2nd detachment, Salamanders
1HQ
2 Troops
1 land raider

I like all the new options but being a 4-5 edtion player I am a bit lost on all the new book keeping.
Sorry if this is a newb question but most of the post i have seen about this seem to be speaking mostly on different codexes and it's all madness, The world has gone mad. Blood angels and Necrons sleeping together, Free transports, crazy supplements. All Madness!

Firstly, welcome back to the game!

Second: In order to get the Company Support rule (i.e. the free transports) from a Gladius, you need at least one Auxilary choice (the two Demi's are a Core choice). I only have the digital version, so I can't give a page number, but look in the SM codex, "For es of the Space Marines" - "Gladius Strike Force" - just under the Company Support rule are three symbols showing how many of each the Core, Aux and Command choices you need / can have.

Third: Because of the way Chapter Tactics works, you don't need to take a full Combined Arms Detachment (1 HQ, 2 Troops) as the second detachment, you could take an Allied Detachment (1 HQ, 1 Troop) since your two detachments will be using different Tactics. Have a look in the appendix of the SM codex (under "Chapter Tactics") and look up Allied Detachments in the rulebook when you do get it.
