Subject: Which super-villain deserves a movie?

We always get superhero movies, but I was watching Movie Fights, and it occurred to me that making supervillain moviescould be far more appealing to adult audiences. If you look at such movies as Ant Man and Captain America, you take violent corporate subterfuge and outright warfare, and make it kid-friendly. It would be great to be able to make a movie a little bit more along the lines of the TV show Vikings, which does an excellent job of showing the protagonists to not be MarySues, but to actually be semi-well-rounded characters with the capabilities to commit murder, yet also fight for honor or spend their lives for a great cause.
In every superhero movie, Villains are continually casted as one-dimensional characters without even a whiff of roundness. Yet, in the comics, most supervillains aren't actually villains, they are doing the right thing from their POV. In the X-men movies, Magneto seems to want to destroy all humans for extremely vague and insufficient reasons, and yet, in the comics, he is actually a survivor of the Holocaust, he watched Hydra try to exterminate his entire species, and he sees the same capabilities in the fears (fear leads to anger, and anger leads to the dark si - I mean racism and genocide) of the modern people. Everything Magneto does, he does to protect his people, the same motivations behind many of the greatest heroes in history. If you look at King Richard the Lionheart, a widely celebrated hero of Europe, he championed Christianity at great personal expense, yet he also massacred innocent civilians and oversaw many of what we would call war crimes.
On that note, it would be interesting to see a superpowered movie that involves this sort of gritty realism, where Dr. Doom is engaged in graphic combat on screen with American soldiers and the American Iron Man, whose name escapes me (much as he does in Fantastic Four, the new one, except for, you know, minus the dense motivations and illogical plans/actions), yet, in the next Act, he's saving Earth from Celestian judges. Make a movie that has Dr. Doom defending his Romani family, show him butchering the Baron's men in defense of his clan.
tl;dr I think it would be interesting to make a Marvel movie that doesn't make everything cheesy and kid-friendly.

I'm not entirely sure about your premise. - Perhaps with the recent Marvel films, yeah....
Overall though, I'd say, for example, most of the Batman films are very much films about the villain than the hero.
Which is, incidentally, how I think the best Batman stories go.
I also have to say, you really need to watch the X-Men films again if you missed all of Magneto's portrayal in them. - Particularly 'First Class.'

Well, DC are ahead of the game with this on Suicide Squad, but yeah, I'd love to see Marvel do some stuff with their villains. They have had some stand-out antagonists (well, Loki at any rate ), but it's definitely an area I think they ought to explore more. Not necessarily needing to be more graphic or adult, I really don't see the point/appeal of covering everything in blood and swearing just for the sake of it, but there are some interesting stories to be told. Baron Zemo and the Thunderbolts are the ones I'd most like to see, and I think the most likely as they are in some ways Marvel's Suicide Squad, albeit with a different tone and motivation. Have them start out as villains, start to actually redeem themselves but throw it all away at the last minute as the lure of power draws them back in. Then there's Doom, easily a complex and interesting enough character to have a film built around, and while he's been repeatedly mishandled by Fox, the F4 rights going back to Marvel are kind of a given at this stage now the sequel's been cancelled (surely another Fox-based reboot isn't on the cards? They must have realised by now that they just can't make a good F4 movie!). Done right, Doom is possibly one of the most engaging, charismatic and iconic characters in all of comics, they just need to stop trying to make him 'gritty' or 'realistic' and give us the bitter, arrogant scientific genius, powerful magician, ruthless statesman and exceptional fighter hell bent on revenge and power. Oh, and Doombots are mandatory, as are castles and capes. The other thing I'd love to see is some version of the Dark Avengers. Now that Marvel have Spidey, and thus Norman Osborne, back under their control, I'd much rather see him as the character that works his way up to become a public figure, takes down The Avengers without ever throwing a punch, manipulates his way to total control than just another version of the Green Goblin to be punched around by Spidey. The Dark Reign arc could practically cover an entire 'phase' of films on its own, one continuous set of 3-4 films that chart Osborne's rise and fall. There's plenty of scope there, and that's just Marvel. a film centred on Magneto as played by Fassbender would be excellent, though kind of unnecessary given how well First Class and Days of Future Past handled him, and DC have a whole raft of interesting villains that could make great protagonists.

I think the Gotham City Sirens could make a good movie.
As far as Marvel goes, Dr. Doom and Magneto are the best choices(Magneto already being pretty well covered as has been mentioned).

Yeah, I know I'm not adding anything original to the mix, but I have to say Dr. Doom.
The fact he was defeated by 5th grade chemistry in the first movie, and his participation in this last one was also "meh", he's still someone who deserves a decent movie.

Vikings is awesome.....
X-men movies specifically have had the Holocaust element to Magneto's character - which is a good thing as it makes his own quest to exterminate the non-mutants so tragic........I was not aware Hydra had anything to do with it - its Germany who carries out the Holocaust even in he MCU not a made up organisation. In fact many of the Marvel films have explored the areas you are discussing - be they Magneto, Ultron or Loki - none of them are just one dimensional villains. They are products of their world and often other choices.
The whole Cap 2 film has apparently decent and reasonable people turning out to be true blue Hydra and apparently believing they are creating a better world by atrocities - the end justifying the means...........
This I feel was one of the weaknesses of the first Cap A film - they tried to make Hydra somehow worse than the Nazi's - and failed. Also the Red Skull was I agree very poorly portrayed both as a threat and as a character of any interest.
DC are equally hit and miss - the Joker and Catwoman are done brilliantly in the Tim Burton films and the Joker is one of the few decent aspects of the later but highly derivative Nolan films - although the Joker in those films is about as Mary Sue as you can get until the end of the film. Yes they have also had Penguin and Max in Burtosn sequel who were awful. Zod just seemed to be a bit angry in Man of Steel with no discernible actual character.

To add to the other votes, Dr. Doom. Done right, a Dr. Doom movie would be better than most of the superhero movies we have so far. Because, when Doom is done right, he is not only the villain of the piece, but the hero, too (and not as some half-assed, shades-of-grey, antihero crap we get these days).
From the DC side of things, I think a Two-Face movie could do well, too.

I'll vote Dr. Doom too - IF he's taken away from FOX, of course!
And I cannot believe YOU of all people beat me to this:
MYSTERIO would be great!
He's a genius inventor, and a master manipulator and planner - well, to a point.
Plus, he's got a great look too!
He's like Marvel's version of an evil Batman!
(Heh!)
All kidding a aside, I'd love to see Mysterio in a film, with or without the rest of the original Sinister Six too.
Or even a modified one with a proper version of the Green Goblin...

Doom is a good one.
I would also say Namor, since he is an on again/off again villain.
Thanos would be a good one as well. He tried really hard when he was younger to not be the way he turned out but death follows him as much as he follows her.
Silver Surfer falls into the same category as Namor for me.

Darkseid would be good.
I say show a movie of him rising to power and becoming the being he is now, god-ruler of Apokolips. Spin it show it shows he was the actual saner choice and his war with High Father was quite merciful compared to his predecessor.

I'd say the Rock actually elevated a lot of the movies he was in from downright terrible to just bad. It's not like he's ever been given much to work with. No one ever seemed to take him seriously as an actor, even when he did a decent job. Most seemed to cast him simply to use his name as marketing material for a really crappy low budget screen play. I thought he did a good job in Walking Tall and that was a pretty decent movie. The Run Down too.
