My Buddy bought the new Nurgle starter box, neither of us know anything about Daemons or Chaos.

Just wondering what you guys think he should get next to get a good 500 list on the go.

What's in the starter set?

A second starter set would be the best for the low point games, but to make it to 500 he should just add in another box of plaguebearers. Once you start getting into the 1000+ range make sure that he has a Daemon Prince of Nurgle in there. He can get pricey once the upgrades get going, but even if you just invest in wings and one greater reward to get the balesword he can do a fair bit. My typical build for a DPoN is Wings, Armour, ML 3, 2 Greater, 1 Lesser reward. Puts him at 345 points, but he will tank a ton of wounds and put out some very high killing power.

An example of a 500 point list I would use would be:

HQ 150
Herald of Nurgle with Greater Locus of Fecundity (FNP for the unit), 1 Greater Reward, 1 Lesser Reward, ML 2 150

Troops 207
Nurglings x3 45
Plaguebearers x18 162

Fast Attack 141
Plague Drones w/Venom Sting (one attack gains ID) x3 141

Following the advice I gave earlier, a step to 1000 would look like this:

So, in the end, it's about € 163 to get 2 of the starter and a daemon prince model, but it will get him to 1000 points.
