Hey, I have put a 1500 pts list together for CSM and I'm looking for some thoughts on it. I have included a dreadclaw using the rules from The Horus Heresy Book Three - Extermination. I have already asked, people are willing to play against me using these rules. Lucius and the 9 man noise marine squad go in the dreadclaw, the lord goes with the bikers and I pair up each cultist squad with an oblitorator squad. HQ: Lucius the Eternal – 165 pts HQ: Lord , Mark of Nurgle, Chaos Bike, Burning Brand of Skalathrax, Melta Bombs, Power Weapon - 150 pts Troop: 9 Noise Marines, Doom Siren, Power Weapon, Close Combat Weapon x8, Icon of excess - 239 pts Troop: 10 Noise Marines, Blastmaster x2, Sonic blaster x8, Chaos Rhino - 299 pts Troop: Chaos Cultists – 50 pts Troop: Chaos cultists - 50 pts Fast Attack: Heldrake, Baleflamer – 170 pts Fast Attack: Anvillus Pattern Dreadclaw Drop Pod - 100 pts Fast Attack: 5 Chaos Bikers, Mark of Nurgle x5, Meltagun x2, Combi-Melta - 170 pts Heavy Support: 3 Oblitorators, Mark of Nurgle x3 - 228 pts Heavy Support: 3 Oblitorators, Mark of Nurgle x3 - 228 pts 1849 pts

Looks alright. I would probably ditch one unit of cultists and get transport for the other unit of noise marines.

The 10 man Noise Marine squad can only take 1 blastmaster per 10 models, so you've got 30 pts to play with.
I'd agree with getting a transport for this squad.
The 3X3 obliterators is scary. But I've found that 2 squads of three is more than enough firepower, and it would free up a substantial amount of points.

Actually I can have two blastmasters in a squad of 10 according to http://www.games-workshop.com/resources/PDF/Errata/Warhammer_40000/Chaos_Space_Marines_EN.pdf
Also, what is the advantage of having them in a rhino? Normally I just have them sit in a building and shoot stuff.
I was thinking of taking out an obbi or two in exchange for buffing up the biker squad.

I dunno for me that's a lot of points for static marines with two long range guns. And there's enough ignores cover ap3 stuff about to nuke them. In a rhino the blastmasters(yes you can have 2) can still shoot out top hatch, you can be a lot more mobile if needed and if the rhino is popped you can deploy out and not count as moving next turn.

Well with the sonic blasters having salvo and ignore cover it makes them amazing for dealing with horde armies or units that rely on cover saves. If I put them in the rhino I may as well drop their sonic blasters. Having the mobility is nice though so I will have to think about it.
Also just realized you can only have two meltas per biker squad anyway, so if I dropped a few obbies what would you recommend I buff up?

Even if you take a rhino they dont have to ride in it. Obsec and fast.
I would spend spare point on bikes, or squeeze in a bike sorcerer.

I would recommend using a kitted out Chaos Lord over Lucius since it will offer a bit more customisation and likely cheeper too.

A biker sorc is actually a nice idea, I will move around some points and see what works. With MoN it could help make the bikers a bit more anti-infantry as well as anti-tank due to the physic powers
Also the main reason I have Lucius over the chaos lord is the doom siren he has - Str 5 AP 3 before assaulting is deadly.

I'm paranoid so I never run a bike squad lower then 5 models. Even 3 MoN bikers will get hurt to easy in a game like this. What's your plan with Lucius?

I suppose three is a little low. Buffing bikers couldnt hurt then.
Lucius is in the dreadclaw along with the 9 man noise marine squad. They get out, fire two doom sirens into whatever they're attacking, normally I just go for the enemy HQ or main combat squad and Lucius gets into a challenge with their HQ, then hopefully destroys them with their WS in attacks.

I updated my army list to include suggestions, I removed one obbie squad, added two more bikers and a MoN biker sorcerer. I also gave the noise marine squad a rhino, though will most likely keep them out of it unless they need to get an objective or their out of range of their sonic blasters.
Let me know if there is anything else I can improve.

I think I'd prefer 3 squads of two oblits, but I guess there's pros and cons.

Ah yea I normally split them up, forgot to when I took out the squad.
Thinking about it, might it be better to take a Chaos Lord with Burning Brand rather than a Sorcerer? Do the bikers need a HQ with them at all? Automatically Appended Next Post: Thinking it through, lord with burning brand of skalthrax as opposed to sorc is more reliable and better in combat for 5 extra points.
Again let me know if this could be done better or something.
