This one looks good. The planet killer doesn't seem all that hard to destroy and we finally get to use ordinary obstacles We just have to get through the Void first, which didn't look all that great on the first read. Though in reality I have to get through TCW first. I have TCW 3 at one venue at the end of this month. I have no idea what is going on with my other venue, they have postponed the TCW until after Regionals, so who knows.

The planet killer wouldn't be that hard to kill with it having no defense but the trick is you need to shoot it head on into it's open mouth. So are you really going to fly up the board and turn in towards the planet killer to line up a shot and thus leave your flank or rear exposed to the enemy fleet? I really don't see why it's worth it. I would only bother with it if I had quickly taken out almost all of the other fleet and just went after the planet killer for the fleet points and then double back to finish off the last opposing fleet ship.
I play tested it last night....we lined our ships on the opposite side of the board away from the planet killer. I used the objectives and two cloaked mine fields to lure the opposing fleet in while I hung back. Two interface generators saved my scimitar from taking a nasty beating in the first round. After my attack and the planet killer helped finish a ship off I just had to play cat an mouse with a fighter squadron until I killed it off.
Just my thoughts on it.

Which is why this one looks so good. Its back to a fun, normal game, vs. a scenario where you have to plan around the scenario, not combat.

I look at it like the Dominion War OP1, take out the big nasty as soon as possible and make it a non factor. Use one of your ships or your blind to move close so the machine, then it has to move towards you. Keep you other ships back so the enemy can't shoot them first turn. Shoot one of your high skill captains at it and try and get 2-3 points off. Then I'm thinking Voyager with Worf, Seven of Nine, and transphasic torpedoes, that will average 8-10 hits. Worf has a low Captain skill so he would probably go after your opponents ships.
I'll have to play it out a few times once I get the dimensions of the token, but I think with some planing this one could be easily controlled and you can snag yourself 20 extra points

And that right there is why I miss playing with you! I didn't even think about making it turn towards me. Love it! I remember you hated when the scenario interfered with the fighting.
Using your idea, I'm gonna play test this:
U.S.S. Voyager [30]
- Worf 5 (Captain) [4]
- Transphasic Torpedoes [10]
- Seven of Nine [4]
Ship Total: 48 SP
U.S.S. Enterprise-E [32]
- Jean-Luc Picard 9 (Captain) [6]
- Tactical Station [4]
Ship Total: 42 SP
Fleet Total: 90 SP
Generated by Utopia
http://comatoes.github.io/staw-utopia/
That should get me 17 attacks with locks and battle stations. Should be able to take it out in the second round....

I like your build but you might get more millage out of
30 Sovereign Class
06 Picard
06 Dorsal Phaser Array
The 360 attack will be more handy than the extra die from Tac Stations.
Another possibility is
30 Prometheus
06 Picard
06 Dorsal Phaser
I like the Prometheus better it will have the same number of hit points as a generic Sovereign class and same number of attacks, but what I like better is that the 6 straight is a white instead of a red. Automatically Appended Next Post: GenZod wrote:

We don't get a chance to play with regular obstacles very often, we should live it up

Agreed. I love the Prometheus ship, so any chance to play it I'm all in. It drops a hull point but it's more maneuverable and that 360 shooting makes it better. You were always the finesse player and I liked to go in with brute force. That's why I picked the tactical stations just to give me those extra dice so I can make sure to kill the planet killer...but your build gives me a better chance after that is done with taking on the opposing fleet.
Supposed to play test it in about an hour....well let you know how it does tonight.

Ok, so first of all....know what manuevers your ship can do BEFORE you place it down in it's starting position! lol. Didn't realize Voyager has no 1 forward...and I placed it just out of range to get the target lock. So I never got to fire the transphasic torps. So it took me two rounds to kill the machine and I lost all my shields on voyager.
Then I flew both ships like the helmsmen were drunk! bumping into each other. It was a mess. I killed the machine but didn't hardly scratch the dominion fleet waiting for me...but that is why we play test these things. I think it's a solid build....just have to get thru that planet killer without taking damage to yourself and gun the engines so you can get behind the other fleet.

There is also the idea of leading the planet killer into the enemy fleet: use your dodiest ship as a lure, and turn the Planet killer into your own personal weapon. let your opponent sink the fire into it to damage it, then fire off a finishing salvo.
Cheap, but I feel it might be worth it.

So we played the Doomsday event last night at my local store. I flew:
Species 8472 Starship (Species 8472 Bioship) [36]
- Jean-Luc Picard 9 (Captain) [5]
- Biological Technology [5]
- Neuro Peptides [2]
- Organic Conduits [1]
Ship Total: 49 SP
Species 8472 Starship (Species 8472 Bioship) [36]
- Mr. Spock 6 (Captain) [3]
- Hayes (Admiral) [2]
Ship Total: 41 SP
Resource: Officer Exchange Program [0]
- Species 8472 Faction
- Federation Faction
Fleet Total: 90 SP
Got the Kazon ship for my blind. Took the named ship and high rank captain and I tech and crew I think. It was only 38/40 points.
Round 1 against my friend I have been play testing against. He had dominion build of fighters, dreadnought and a Keldon class with the Lakoda blind ship. He took out the planetkiller really quick. I stayed on the far side of the board so I could gun my ships full throttle and then hard turn to try and get flanking shoots on him. It worked pretty good. Lots of fire back and forth. I took out everything but his Kardi fighters and I had one bioship at full strength left. So with a few minutes left to play it became cat an mouse as I was trying to keep him from getting 49 extra points by killing my big bioship. We flew all over the board but his little fighters eventually cornered me and got some shoots off. But I was able to evade pretty good and then he hard turned a little too much probably thinking I was gonna try and gun it out of the corner onto the straight away...but I didn't. I just did a slow one forward and he went right in front of me. I got another easy shot at him but he had full fighters so it wasn't nothing for him. But I did loose the round by a few points cause he got the +20 for the doomsday machine.
Round 2 against intrepid with picard, voyager with spock and transphasic torps and he got the romulan ship as his blind. This time I knew I needed the extra fleet points so I lined up close to the doomsday ship...took it out no problem. However the rest of the fight was much harder. Spock and his transphasic torps put a hurting on my second bioship and it tried to limp away and regenerate but he had aft disruptors on his romulan ship and I couldn't save it. His Picard intrepid put up a good fight cause he had cheat death on it but it eventually went down. I flipped my picard bio ship around and hard turned my kazon ship with its 180 arc and finally took out the Romulan. Round ended with me still having the picard bioship and kazon to his voyager...I won.
Round 3 I was in fourth place by 15 points. So my opponent, the third place player, and I knew we each needed to get the doomsday machine and it's fleet points. However, he was flying a Borg Tact cube with it's large base so I knew I wouldn't get close enough to get the planetkiller to turn towards me. He was also flying the Borgified Ent-D and he got the regular klingon ship as his blind. So I decided that if I couldn't to the doomsday machine first, I would go after the borg cube and try and take it out hard and fast. He came out fast with a 4 forward on his cube and I did the same with all three of my ships lined up straight across from the cube. With his large base it was just within range three of my ships. I but all three target locks on the cube, used my admiral and Kazon abilities to get extra dice and I lite him up! All of my ships got to fire before his cube. It took all three but boom went the dynamite, no more cube. He only did 4 damage to the doomsday machine and now it was time to fire back. It had his borg Ent-D locked on and I rolled a crazy roll. 7 hits and a crit! He was down to one hull and the crit was warp core breach which ended up blowing him up at the start of the next round! So here I have all three of my ships, untouched against his one remaining small klingon ship. It did not go well for him. My Picard bioship took him out with one shot! Round three was over in three rounds of play and I sweep the board clean.
That last round was good enough to propel me into second place based on my fleet points. Unfortunately the store couldn't find the OP kit it ordered. So they didn't have the prize or participation items to give out. We will get those next month but to make up for it, they gave the top three winners a blind ship as they had some left over. So I ended up getting the Kardassian blind ship so that wasn't too bad.
All in all it was a very fun night. Great rounds of play. I was really disappointed with how easy it was to kill the doomsday machine. I think it should have been harder. Oh well, on to the Mutara Nebula!

Nice write up, 1st round was a tough one for you. Fighters are difficult for bioships to take on. 2nd sounds like a good match up. 3rd was just brutal, poor cube

Congrats GenZod on 2nd place! Sounds like you had a good time.
I've been reading a lot that the Doomsday Machine is pretty much a non-player in this OP- really easy to blow up. One of the things my group is contemplating is only a ship completely within the maw of the Doomsday Machines firing arc can shoot at the Doomsday Machine. That, or just buffing the heck out of it some more. We'll see.
Tonight, we are playing a custom scenario- a "Space Race" where it's one ship, ship pure, no bigger then 3 hull, and no more than 40 points on the ship. Oh, and we can't shoot at each other unless we are within range 1-2 of a specific obstacle on the race course. And there is a bunch of other stuff on the course, and random events. I hope to post something about it tomorrow.

I think the Doomsday Machine is about right. Remember in the show it went up against 2 constitutions class ships. All it too to take it out was to destroy a ship in its mouth. TNG, DS9, and Voy era ships are a lot more powerful than a constitutions and you have a whole fleet to take up against it. Even in TOS, if Kirk had a whole fleet to take agaisnt it the Doomsday Machine would have went down quickly. In a one on one fight the Machine is a beast, but it's a planet killer it isn't the kind of thing designed to take on a whole fleet.

Right and scary are two very different things. I can see Zod's point though: its essentially a non-entity. It shoots last, and dies fairly easy. Unless you expect your fight to be a hard one, there is no incentive to fight it.
