And I'd prefer not to pay for them. Sure, I could just buy the bitz from GW, but that'll cost me, and I'd prefer to spend hat money on other things. Any suggestions? It's for Space Wolves, so any rough conversions can be covered by fur.

Use a normal back pack, remove all vents and balance thrusters.

Grab some pen lids (2 per back pack), cut them roughly to size. Add trim to top and bottom of pen lid with card/plasticard/yogurtpot.

Glue to back pack. Add cables if desired.

Just play the models without backpacks until you get your hands on some

It's not like the backpacks have any in-game function (like a weapon).
