Hello,
I ordered the War Zone Damocles: Kauyon book. I do not own the tau codex. Do I still need to buy the regular codex, or does Kauyon have everything I need?

You will still need either the 7th edition tau Codex or the 6th edition. The campaign book only has new units/changes

That has fomations and rules for running farsight's enclave.
Confusing the old Farsight book is still available for digital purchase so I'm not sure if that one is superseded

It does supersede the old Farsight Enclaves book. If anything major is different that was published in the old book, I don't know. But, if buying one or the other, you buy the new Mont'ka since even if nothing is different, the new stuff makes a difference..
Yes, you'll need the Rulebook, Codex, Kauyon and Mont'ka books if you want all the information. And Imperial Armour 3 as well since there's additional rules there. Or, you can just get the core Rulebook and the new 7th Edition Tau codex for the minimum needed to play. Farsight Enclaves/Mont'ka and IA:3 are all optional for alternative styles of play. Kauyon is the changes made from the 6th Edition book to the 7th Edition.

Simply put, if you have no books, then the 7th edition codex and rulebook are enough to field a non-farsight Tau army. If you want additional formations that can be fielded then Montka will be needed, and can also be used to field Farsight Enclaves. Kauyon was only needed if you had the 6th edition codex, and wanted some fluff, and updates.

Some differences in the FSE came on Mont'ka, some for better and some for worse.
But this is quite and accurate rundown otherwise.
