I'm curious if there is any indication when/if the next black crusade will be to take the Cadian gate. I'm pretty sure this was being talked about in the last chaos codex before last, but in Abadon's entry it flat out says he's planning to do it, and in Typhus' entry it says his plague fleet has been spotted near the location recently. Wondering if this actually means anything.

Assuming it all does kick off, what are chaos's chances looking like to take the gate? If they do, what will be the consequences for the Imperium and the rest of the galaxy?

Chaos will take it, this is virtually guaranteed by the whole "End Times" thing that 90% of the lore has been hinting at for ages.

999.M41

Without knowing much about the Black Crusades, I'd say that if the Imperium are victorious then it'd be at least a few hundred years before the next attempt (meaning anywhere from 100 years up to 1,000 years). I say this purely based of the time elapsed between the 10th, 11th, 12th and 13th Black Crusades.

But at this point, the 13th Black Crusade is still going technically, which also means that Typhus' entry just signifies his involvement in the war in some way (I assume).

As for their chances of taking the gate in the next Black Crusade, it all depends on how much damage they do during this one as well as how soon after this Black Crusade the next one starts.

The 'impending doom' mentioned in all the current codices is the 13th Black Crusade, which was resolved during GW's 2003 summer campaign ~ IIRC the aftermath was a stalemate, the Imperium still held Cadia itself but it no longer held total control: some Chaos fleets could still sneak through the Gate but others could still be intercepted.

GW has this bee in their bonnet about moving the timeline past 999.M41 because it would force* them to change the name of the game, so the timelines were rolled back to before/during its beginning.

* I've no idea why, Space Marine 1st edition was so named because it only contained Space Marines, Space Marine 2nd edition included Orks and Eldar as well.. whilst Titan Legions only contained a single Titan, and it's not like the game is set in 000.M41

I'd have a good laugh if lord top knot is not the prophesized traitor king but more like the harbinger or just paving the way for the true traitor king... Sort of like the relationship between Jon the Baptist and Jesus Christ in Christianity. Except in this case, lord top knot believes he is the traitor king and would quite possibly react in explosive violence when it is revealed that he isn't the traitor king....

The only stories I know that go into M42 is the aftermath of the Ciaphas Cain novels. I think it's about a century so unless GW is going to do yet another retcon the galaxy didn't end at 999 M41.

Not all of it.

The timeline has the 13th Black Crusade about to enter its final battle.

I thought it ended in a small Chaos victory. The Imperium held Cadia and space but chaos held more planets.

I was under the impression that the "end times" was more focused on the fact that Necrons and Tyranids have shown up, as well as Ghazkull Mag Uruk Thraka unifying the orks. Both Necrons and Tyranids sowed up sometime during M40. Both have been around for longer and been avctive in diffrent ways but didn't become the major galaxy spanning threat they are now untill recent memory.

It did. They rolled back the timeline about a month after releasing the results.

The EoT Campaign ended with Cadia all but fallen to Chaos, having only one city-fortress still standing, though the Imperium had control of most of the space around the planet (which doesn't actually count for much unless they plan on glassing the place). The Gate itself was basically open for Chaos Fleets to come and go with relative impunity.

Except that the planet itself is only really important for resupplying the patrol ships. The idea of holding a 'gate' in space like that is pure fantasy. Space is so empty that any kind of defence network would have to have a picket ship every half-million kilometres or so across the entire span of the safe channel... you're looking at millions of millions of ships, and even then you're looking at massive swathes of space that can just be flown through.
