Greetings!
I have been out of the loop on 40K updates this past year and half or so, and am thinking about jumping back into 40K with Tau. I have always like their aesthetic and playstyle, which will be a refreshing change from my 4+ years as melee-heavy Space Wolves. So what were the changes in the Tau Codex?
I heard that the previous 6th edition Tau Codex is still valid except for the newest stuff which is included in the current 7th edition Tau Codex. Is this correct? And to follow up, is the Farsight Enclaves book still valid with the latest Codex?
I'm also interested in fielding a bunch of Crisis Suits as well. Is there a Formation or Detachment that would allow me to go Crisis Suit heavy?
Thanks!

You need Kauyon and the 6th codex. The new farsight rules are in Mont'ka.
If you get Kauyon no need for the 7th ed Tau codex. If you just want the new rules and no fluff get the 7th codex.

The Kauyon campaign book is meant to be taken as an update to the 6th edition Tau codex. The 7th edition Tau codex just integrates those changes, so can be taken on its own.
Farsight's a bit iffy, because GW still sells the Farsight enclaves book which included the additional rules to run an enclaves army with the 6th edition Tau codex, and also sells a new book called mont'ka which includes the rules to run enclaves with the 7th edition Tau codex. Problem is, there are differences between them.
High level, the main changes are new optional equipment for the ethereal, new type of fire warrior, two new giant battle suits, and increases to the number of crisis suits can be taken in a squad. Automatically Appended Next Post: Oh, and formations. D'oh!

There is allegedly a FSE codex being worked on if people don't want the Mont'ka book. It is allegedly supposed to come out this month. It has a very very small chance of having a single model release with it but the source doubts it a lot. Source is very reliable for all the other Tau rumors, but as always take it with salt.

A model released with it? O'Vessa maybe since he is the only RAW legal ECPA left?

I wouldn't get too excited. The new model would be welcome but completely unexpected.

I really don't feel they need to add any models for FSE. I would like for them to remove the missile pod from the studio model of torchstar though lol.

I am hoping for a single unique unit to set the FSE apart from the TE just a tad.

As of right now the cheapest way to get all of the new rules for the Tau if you own the 6th ed book is to buy both campaign books. Kauyon has all the new units + formations + some of the tau specific terrain formations and Mont'Ka has all the updated FSE stuff.
If you don't care about the Tau terrain, the 7th ed book and Mont'Ka are the cheapest ways to get the rules. I personally would wait for the rumored Farsight book to come out instead of buying the campaign book because those just seem overpriced to me.

Just so we're clear, GW only still sells the Farsight Enclaves book in eBook format. In the US and UK, it's listed as "No Longer Available". It might be listed as available in your region, but that just means your webstore still has stock.
