Hi guys, just got into this hobby about a month ago and thought I'd share some work with you (first post ^^). This is my first attempt at any model larger than a standard unit, inspired from the thokt dynasty color of blue. Man this was a pain to put together and pain, but it was a good learning experience and overall, I am happy with how it turned out. Please critique and let me know what you guys think!

So this was the base I made for him, turned out surprisingly well I think for my first attempt at basing.

The back. The edging was probably the most time consuming part of the whole process, it came out a little messy so I could definitely use some advice on that.

Looks good! If you're edge-highlighting armour plates in a metallic colour, messy actually looks good because it looks like paint is peeling and chipping off the metal underneath - in other words it looks like weathering. I'm not sure if you're highlighting the black with grey or steel, but in the photos I'm seeing a weathered look.

The base looks great, but because the colours are very similar to the colours you're painting the model with, there's a risk they'll "blend together" from a distance. This is why people typically (but not always) pick colours for their bases that are somewhat distinct from the colours they're using for the models. Just something to keep in mind for the future.

re: edge highlighting - I just really started doing this as well, but I did find you can go back over areas you 'mess' up a little, with the base coat colour, like that black you're using, and help clean up the line. Only other thing I can suggest is keep the brush angle as consistent as you can. And use the edge as much as you can. Looks really good though! better than my first efforts

Also, something to think about, doing a chipping effect on all the white parts might really take it to the next level!
