Subject: "Start Collecting" Sets Point totals?

Ork Boy Hangin' off a Trukk

Hi all,
I have never played WHFB or AoS before (40k player here) and it looks like the Start Collecting sets might be a fun way to get into the game. Can anybody tell me how many points each of the 6 sets are? Currently there are:
Daemons of Nurgle
Daemons of Khorn
Greenskinz
Seraphon
Slaves to Darkness
Malignants
Thanks!
Edit: so I just found out that there are no points in AoS. So... nevermind.

You are aware that AoS doesn't use a points system, right? That the game system has 4 pages of rules, that you can download for free from GW?

Or more humourously worded... AoS is pointless.

Currently most played: Silent Death, Mars Code Aurora, Battletech, Warcrow and Infinity. |

Ha ha. Back on topic, the GW site shows the contents of each set. For example, the £50 Seraphon starter contains 1 carnosaur, 12 Saurus heavy infantry and 24 Skink light infantry. Cross referencing this with the Lizard Man war scrolls, we find that the Carnosaur can be used as the hero Kroq-Gar, or as a less powerful Scar-Veteran on Carnosaur. The 12 Saurus is a single unit as the minimum unit size for Saurus infantry is 10. The 24 Skinks could be deployed as two units of 12 or one unit of 24. (Minimum unit size of 10.) Skinks get a To Hit bonus when fielded in large numbers. Basically, then, you get three or four units in this boxed set. This is enough for a small game. To build up the army for bigger games, you would probably want to add a wizard, some more heavy infantry, perhaps some cavalry or flyers, and a big monster like a Stegadon. You can work out army lists for any other boxed set by the same method.

Thanks. Would you say that the "Start Collecting" box sets are roughly balanced against each other? Which several are the most balanced against each other? Which would be the most underpowered or overpowered sets?

Some of the most popular fan-made comps are on www.scrollbuilder.com. You can plug them in there. I believe people have done that before and posted about the results but I forget off the top of my head. There's a bit of variance.

Not sure where the 24 Skinks came from?

Something worth mentioning is that each of these AoS boxes contain a unique formation intended to work with the models from within the box. It's not a bad idea if you want to expand to pick up a boxed set that could bolster the numbers of one of the units from within or a standalone hero that does something the one from within the box does not do.

Another good thing is, just field what you want. Now I can be wrong here, and if I am, I will be corrected, but you can field ANYTHING (if I am not mistaken).
So if I am correct (again unless this has changed now with the Grand Allience books) You can field Sigmar with Chaos to go against the Rat guys and Dead guys. (sorry don't know their names yet, still learning all the new names.)

Yep, plug them through www.scrollbuilder.com (SDK would give a more in-depth look).

I must have mixed it up with one of the other sets or something. At any rate, the principle of the thing is correct. Check what's in the start box and relate it to the relevant war scrolls.
