I am trying to build a semi-competitive 1850 point list. I figure that it would be hard to avoid using the Lion's Blade bonus, as getting free Razorbacks, Rhinos and Drop Pods is almost too good to pass up.

Right now, I have two Demi-Companies. Each is set up as follows.

Chaplain/Company Master: bare bones, straight 90 points
3x Tactical Squads: 6 Marines w/ Missile launcher, Lasback
Assault Squad: 2x Flamers, Drop Pod
Devastator Squad: 3x Multi-Melta, Drop Pod

Combined, the two Battle Demi's come to about 1260pts, leaving me with almost 600 points left. I'm trying to figure out what to do with those 600 points. I feel like the two drops with flamers can do a number on hordes while the two Devastator Drops, plus the six Lasbacks and six missile launchers can do a number on vehicles, monsters and even super-heavies. I am very weak on melee and anti-flier (though six TL Lascannon shots might surprise some folks).

I was thinking maybe some sort of Ravenwing. Them moving flat out up the board on turn 1 would take some attention away from my drops. Alternatively, a Deathwing element could very effectively support my drops and keep the enemy from going after my somewhat squishy Tactical Squads and Lasbacks.

Last thought was trying to figure a way to take a 3x Vindicator set up. Not commonly seen, but the massive pie plate of death would make an interesting distraction carnifex that could do some damage if it actually gets in range and can hit. However, I feel that vindicators are too scary and squishy to make this formation really viable, and I don't know how I'd work it in.

Another idea that I've toyed with is taking an IG allied detachment camped behind an Aegis Defense Line. Maybe with a Hydra as well to patch up my serious deficiency in anti-air firepower.

In short, I am completely lost on what to do with the rest of this list and would appreciate any help, constructive critiques, or merciless criticism. Thanks folks.

Ravenwing Support Squadrons are dead sexy, but I think I might recommend the plasma skimmer instead of Darkshroud, as it seems like you don't have a lot that would take advantage of its +1 stealth. They'll run about 300 points each, so you could easily field a pair of them for interceptor/mega-overwatch/heavy fire support.

Edit: spelling is hard.

I would prefer adding in ravenwing attack squadrons loaded up with grav guns and extra bikes. You can scout them up into the opponents face, take out the big scary threat with grav. After that, they can pester the rest of their army. Block their combat units from getting to your tac squads. Use hit&run to keep you from getting locked in combat. I run two of these along with my battle company.

Thanks a lot for the input. I was leaning towards Ravenwing Attack Squadrons. Their bikers are pretty awesome and would help me saturate the opponent early. The other thing I had considered was trying to go with their Silence Formation (the one with 2 Nephilims and a Dark Talon). That gives me some major anti-infantry power from the Dark Talon and serviceable anti-air from two Nephilims. My biggest weaknesses as I see it are lack of anti-psyche and lack of air support.

Are there a lot of flyers in your local meta? They've gotten less popular; probably because they cannot score objectives and many missions have progressive scoring each turn.

The 7th edition codex upgraded the fliers from garbage to decent, but they're not good. And the plasma land speeder is still bad: remember it can't fire blasts while jinking. A Darkshroud is always valuable.
