After watching a lets play of the Walking Dead All Out War on Beasts of War, I had the idea of putting random zombies in 40k. So here is the rough:

Start with 2 squads of 15 zombies (using the chaos cultist Typhus zombie stats) in the center of the board.
During movement: If you move within 18" of a zombie squad, move said zombie squad towards unit's final position. Zombies can only move once a game turn.
During shooting: If you shoot at a zombie squad, move said zombie squad towards the shooting unit's final position. Do not move zombies if they already moved in the movement phase.
During assault: Nothing, any close combat with zombies is done at the very end of the game turn with both players.
Very end of game turn: Any zombie squads that have not moved and are greater than 18" from a player unit, use a scatter die move remaining zombie squads 6" If this movement brings a zombie squad within 12" of a player unit the zombie unit will attempt a charge. Any zombie squads closer than 18" to a player unit will move towards the closest unit and attempt a charge. Any zombie units that already moved earlier in the turn will attempt to charge the closest player unit if it can. After all zombie movement and close combats are finished add another 15 man zombie squad to the board using outflanking rules but only coming straight in from the centers of either side of the board.

Any zombie movement/combats will be performed by the opposing player. (Meaning the player not currently taking his turn.)
If both players are equal distance to a zombie squad, zombies will go towards whoever is leading in victory points if that is a tie as well roll off, winner chooses.
Players may shoot into a melee containing zombies and opposing player models. To determine hits, select a weapon set e.g. lasguns, the closest model's unit becomes the target unit for that weapon set. A flamer or blast can hit and wound both units as normal. If a zombie and an opposing player model are tied for closest, the opposing player chooses.

Anyway thats my rough idea of having zombies in the game. Trying to keep the rules as simple as possible, let me know any ideas or word changes. The idea of only having one combat phase with the zombies was to keep CC armies from flying up and being locked with a group of zombies during the other player's turn, then slingshoting into the other player without them being able to do anything. Any questions/comments welcome.

40k is as exciting as riding a pony, which doesn't sound very exciting.......

But the pony is 300 feet tall and covered in CHAINSAWS!

I would suggest the Vraks Zombies, they are a bit tougher than Typhus zombies, toting a FNP of 4, they also are cheaper, but I don't think points matter in your game. Oh, if they win combat, you add D3 zombies to their unit.

Toss in some plague ogryns, fighting just zombies will get boring quickly. Trust me, I bring 60 of the buggers in my renegades and heretics lists pretty often. Its fun to roll tons of dice, but sometimes I just let my opponent kill the few zombies they will kill and move on. The combat is boring, you will want something to spice it up a little.

Also, consider something like zone mortalis, or cityfight terrain to keep things interesting, with zombies randomly spawning from areas. If you just have zombies walking towards the opponents from a centerpoint, well that is just kiting 101 and super boring. give your players an objective. Make it kill teams with narrative or something.

I like the sound of those Vraks zombies. Your renegades and heretics list is that out of the Vraks book? Where would I get that list? Zombies are the only reason I started Chaos, if I can get them with my Main Guard army that would be sweet.

I would totally add different zombies and spawn points for a smaller game but, and I didn't make this part very clear, you are playing a normal 40k game with another person at 1500-2000 points getting maelstrum or claiming objectives. Everything is exactly like a normal 40k game except you have random zombies on the map with more coming in every turn. That's why I'm trying to keep it as simple as possible.

Oh I should add killing a zombie squad does not grant a kill point in kill point games.
