So I love Lootas but I hate that they only get a t-shirt save. Is it worth sticking them in a Trukk for some added movement? Currently I'm rolling a Big Mek with the KFF and try to get Infiltrate with Da Finkin' Cap to stick them in some cover.

I'd be inclined to put them in a Trukk, yeah. There's a risk if it explodes, but I'll take that over them getting shot at without any protection. Plus it gets you an extra rokkit, and you can use it to ferry someone else into assault or as mobile cover once you have the Lootas planted somewhere interesting.
I do much the same thing with Dark Eldar - Raiders blow up easily, but I still put my Kabalite Warriors/Trueborn in Raiders/Venoms. (Yeah, they don't die as easily as Trukks, but they also cost more... same effect, give or take)

Lootas are also great in the top level of a bastion. It gives them the height to see over models, and you can put a cheap unit of grots in the 2nd level to man the heavy bolters.

Active armies, still collecting and painting First and greatest love - Orks, Orks, and more Orks largest pile of shame, so many tanks unassembled most complete and painted beautiful models, couldn't resist the swarm will consume all
Armies in disrepair: nothing new since 5th edition oh how I want to revive, but mostly old fantasy demons and some glorious Soul Grinders in need of love |

I would go with the void shield fortification best protection they can get in my opinion and it helps your entire army against alpha strike list.

I would say no. Lootas are best when standing still in cover. They don't need to move, 48" range is negating the shity armour.

Deffguns are heavy weapons, so if the Trukk moves the Lootas have to snapshoot. I know Orks are only BS2 anyway, but being forced to snapshoot is still dropping the amount of hits they'll score by half. If you're gonna waste a turn or two driving them into cover, why not just stick some Ard Boyz in the Trukk instead and go assault something?
Tankbustas on the other hand benefit greatly from a Trukk. Rokkits are Assault 1 so the Trukk can move a bit while the Boyz shoot, and you can also assault out of it to go smack something around with all those Tankbusta Bombs

Aegis is a great idea if you don't want them in the trukk. I've also had fun with them on foot with a MA Mek, letting them move and shoot.

With so much ignores cover you could also consider a skyshield landing pad?
