Using Eldrad Ulthuan to roll for GOI, also D3 units to scout, you can no Scatter teleport across the table dropping strength 4 ignore cover large blasts.

Minimum 301pts for a mini anti infantry death star. Against Imperial Guard or any army with 4+ infantry who like to use cover this could be really effective every time I have used a 6 man squad of Hawks the Grenade pack has always been brilliant and this way you can drop one every turn and have Eldrad blast away with psychic powers, maybe add more Farseers or Spiritseers for extra psychic output

(This is RAW for Grenade pack)

Not game winning on its own but can fulfil a support role for the rest of the army

Wouldn't a pair of Hawk units do the same thing, but better?

The Grenade pack part they could do similar, with this you start on the board so can start damaging them from turn 1 the others come in turn 2 earliest and you don't get to use their Lasblasters every turn

What you get from this is Eldrad +friends psychic powers anywhere on the board you want it.
Add in Death jester and psychic shriek for extra damage

I think he is talking about keeping one on the table at all time. Turn 1 has one on the board out of sight and one in reserves, turn 2 (hopefully) hawks come in and the ones that were already in jump out. rinse and repeat. You are still correct that you wouldn't get a turn 1 drop but over all this is cheaper and doesn't run the risk of not getting GoI, periling, or not getting the power off.

True but with runes and ghosthelm perelling and not casting are unlikely

I could have backup roles for the units if fail to get GOI Eldrad would join a unit to buff cc ability, anything with an invulnerable can benefit from sanctuary and hammerhand is good too

And swooping hawks on their own are fine

The real issue with perils are the ones where if you fail your leadership you are removed, and the losing a power.

Seems like an awful lot of points for a Str4 Ap4 large blast.

Now i'm a huge fan of hawks, I pretty much always take 3x6 man units with exarchs. But Eldrad is very expensive for a unit like this.

You can get the same results you're looking for by just taking a second hawk unit, and alternating them coming in and out of play. You're also not dealing with the 2/3 risk of not getting gate.

Cute idea, but it works better in a seer council with Baharroth. I run it with wraithguard, personally.

Grenade pack requires you to enter the board from deep strike, not sure you are entering the board when using GoI since you were already on the board when it is cast.
