So I've been playing against my friend's Space Wolves a fair amount recently, and my tyranids don't do fantastically. Grey hunters can have up to 5 attacks when BEING charged (at initiative 4!) spelling a world of pain for my charging broods.
Wondering if anyone's got any general tactics or useful units that I could keep in mind, and try and even out the odds a little. Thanks in advance!

The armies that I collect:
- Tyranids, 2,000 pts.
- Orks, 1,250 pts.
- Tau, 750 pts.
- Guard (PDF), 750 pts.
(Yes I have a thing for horde armies to some extent) |

How are they getting 5 attacks? I've never heard of that before and I don't see how to get that many.

Pretty sure they get 1 attack+1 for counter attack. Should they have a ccwpn+pistol(pretty sure they do not) they get another +1 attack.
Your friend should be getting only 2 attacks per grey hunter when charged, unless they have some other item from a character that is giving them more attacks(like a banner might give +1 attack..) but there is no way your friend can have 5 attacks per grey hunter.
Your friend is either confused or...other.

A banner could be adding another attack, but I agree that there should be no more than 4 attacks per model.
As for how to deal with them: numbers or monstrosity. Drowning them in a sea of biomass usually suffices.

Well..Flyrants are common enough and deal quite handily with SW but it's a fmc so might bring hate.
If you're going for CC nids, Raveners, Warriors with BS/LW combo, Hormagaunts. Possibly Trygons, with Carnifexes with Devourers (Devourers Carnifexes make good supporting units with the S6 shots and S9 AP2 attacks wreck vehicles). Basically, you want to strike before they do, and there is plently in the book that is either tough enough to withstand damage, or strikes before them. Automatically Appended Next Post: And yeah, Grey Hunters get 3 attacks max.
Now Thunderwolf Cavalry, they can get five attacks and you do not want to be in combat with them.

Good old fashioned Str 6 Spam. The 3+ Flyrants follow the TWC around pumping shots down into them, Carnifex draw the TWC where you want them, Warriors actually do really well against Grey Hunter/Wolf Guard squads, and Mawlocs plow into ongoing combats (not TWC if they have Storm Shields) to wreck face when everyone is tied up. Then, win the game using Obj Sec Rippers with Deep Strike.

Hey thanks everyone for all the feedback, but with the five attacks error, it should of been four, we made an error with ccw/pistol bonus attacks. The banner, as previously mentioned, was used and of course counter attack. So four attacks, apologies.
Anyways, magnetised warriors have bonesword / lashwhip combos littered amongst rending claws, and second flyrant is under construction. We are doing 1,000 - 1,250 point games so I'm hesitant to bring two, let alone three fmc's... Also found that mawlocs work absolute wonders - killing tough grey hunters and rune priests alike with s7 ap2 big blasts!
All in all, good advice, thanks guys.

If there are more than three TWC models, don't feel bad about bringing two Flyrants. Three at 1250 is excessive by my standards, but with as few competitive choice for Nids as there are, two is plenty fair if your opponent brings something close to optimized as well.
And Mawlocs are S6 Large Blasts, not S7.

Exocrines are the one's with S7 AP2 Large Blasts.
Mawlocs are probably better, because of Ignore Cover and cheaper to boot.
