I've played lots of 40k but only a dozen games of X-Wing. Help me build a decent 100 point squad from this pile of ships; you're my only hope!

  • Core Set and one extra X-Wing model and pilot cards
  • Millennium Falcon
  • A-Wing
  • E-Wing
  • Z-95 Headhunter
  • And can probably borrow friend's Force Awakens Core Set too

  • I hear that Poe and Han are good? And Push the Limit is good? What combination can I come up with?

From those kits, beyond the core set, I have these upgrades:
    Spoiler:
    Concussion Missiles * 2
    Assault Missiles * 2
    Elusiveness
    Draw Their Fire
    Veteran Instincts
    (The YT-1300 crew members)
    Shield Upgrade * 2
    Engine Upgrade *2
    Ion Pulse Missiles
    Wingman
    Decoy
    Munitions Failsafe
    Flechette Torpedoes
    R7 Astromech
    R7-T1
    OUtmaneuver
    Advanced Sensors
    Cluster Missiles
    Homing Missiles
    ~*Push the Limit*~
    Deadeye

Hope to play a game 20 hours from now. Thanks for your help! I have no idea what I'm doing!

If it's a friendly game, print a list. "Proxy" some cards, in essence.

    I'd go with this.

    Han Solo (46)
    Push the Limit (3)
    Chewbacca (4)
    Gunner (5)
    Engine Upgrade (4)

    Poe Dameron (31)
    Veteran Instincts (1)
    R5-P9 (3)
    Autothrusters (2)

    Total: 99

Thanks for the reply! Is this a common practice? I kinda like the experience of using physical cards with the art, but maybe I should get over that?

It's the way it has to be at tournaments. But outside of that, people are generally ok with proxies, especially if you say you're on a budget.

If people are uptight about it, work around it. Like this:

    Chewbacca (42)
    Push the Limit (3)
    Gunner (5)
    Engine Upgrade (4)

    Corran Horn (35)
    Veteran Instincts (1)
    Fire-Control System (2)
    R2-D2 (4)
    Engine Upgrade (4)

    Total: 100

Not optimal, but neither was the first build either, I think.

Borrow BB-8 from your friend then you can run an awesome Wedge Antilles build:

    Wedge (38 points)
    -Push the Limit
    -BB8
    -Engine Upgrade

Then you could easily spend the rest of your points on Han.

    Han Solo (62 points)
    -Cluster Missiles
    -Luke Skywalker
    -Chewbacca
    -Millennium Falcon

The turn you shoot your cluster missiles will be awesome. Getting to reroll all your dice with both attacks, and if you miss with the second attack you get a third attack with your primary weapon with a pseudo-focus that you can reroll all your dice on.

Evade on turns you get shot at, focus on turns you don't (so you can change eyes on both attacks should you need to)

Definitely agreed on Wedge Antilles (provided it's an "actual" x-wing expansion, not a spare from someone else's core set).

    If it's not......then

Poe Dameron, Push The Limit, BB-8
    - is not bad. R2-D2 is probably better - it's a choice between recoverable shields and not ending the turn stressed (plus an ability to 'sideslip').

That leaves less points for Han, but still enough to make him nasty.

Wingman might work well - because that deals with the stress off R2-D2 - but personally I think you can't go wrong with Engine Upgrade. Boost on a PS9 large ship is nasty to try and compensate for, and with a turret you can use it purely to dodge other people's arcs of fire.

Poe Dameron - R2-D2, Push The Limit
Han Solo - Luke Skywalker, Chewbacca, Millenium Falcon, Engine Upgrade

Thank you! I can see how several of these cards work together. Is the idea that Chewbacca soaks damage while wearing down opponents, and the E-Wing zooms around doing hit-and-run attacks?

Thank you for your reply! That looks fun; how exactly should it be played?

And I could probably borrow some of the Imperial upgrade cards if needed:
    Spoiler:
    Daredevil
    Elusiveness
    Determination
    Swarm Tactics
    Outmaneuver
    Predator
    Adrenaline Rush
    Munitions Failsafe
    Ion Pulse Missiles
    Ion Cannon
    Advanced Proton Torpedoes
    Assault Missiles
    Proton Bombs
    Seismic Charges
    Fire-Control System
    Tactician
    Recon Specialist
