Subject: One Final Attempt at AoS

Reading all the fantasy threads is making me want to play the game again in any format, so I intend to go on a ten game quest to see if there is something about it I can cling on to. I'm thinking of going with an assassin force with some night runner, some gutter runners, couple of assassins and the verminlord assassin. Can someone tell me is there a battlescribe type thing for AoS? I know list writing has sadly gone by the way side but I'm curious if there exists an app that does the war scroll function? Cheers

The official, free AoS app is a place to start.
And always play battleplans/scenarions.

www.scrollbuilder.com is very good, has the Clash Comp pools, SCGT pools, and SDK points.
If you're interested in some sort of comp, I like SCGT, which the HeelanHammer/Facehammer people just came out with in advance of their tournament.
http://heelanhammer.com/scgt/
And if you haven't, I highly recommend listening to HeelenHammer and Facehammer podcasts. They're some of the bigger tournament people over that side of the world and really came around to AoS in the last few months.

Yep AoS app + Scrollbuilder will have you set up. A Skaven assassin army sounds great too. Post some pics in the modelling thread once you've put them together if you are happy to share :-)

Bye bye Dakkadakka, happy hobbying! I really enjoyed my time on here. Opinions were always my own :-) |

Points don't exist in the game out of the box, but fans have created a lot of different systems for balancing games or judging an army's strength. I don't think it's necessary, but it's nice to have options and a baseline for people to know what to bring. The clash, SDK and SCGT have risen to the top mostly. Some people play Azyr but unfortunately they aren't on scroll builder, which is very convenient.
The pool system, which SCGT uses as well, is based off minimum unit sizes, so it's not as particular as the points we're used to or the SDK system. Clash Comp measures pools out of 20 as a normal size of battle, whereas SCGT does 100 pools for its normal battle size (but their allocation of points is different, so both systems produce pretty much equal sized games). So a unit of minimum size 5 might be Y number of pools, multiplied by each minimum unit size. In that system, if a minimum unit size is 5, you have to pay for 2 "units" of it if you take more than 5, or 3 if you take more than 10, and so on.
One of the cool things about the pool/SCGT system is at least at tournaments they include sideboards, so you'd have 150 pools of your army but only deploy 100 pools in each battle, of your choosing, allowing you to tailor your war band for each scenario. Now, I just need to move to the UK so I can participate too.

They can be, but pitched battle type games are really not where the game shines and are I think where many people's experiences of AoS go bad.
You've already had the idea for an assassin/sneak type army - why would they *ever* face someone in open battle? A scenario like Out of the Mist or The Trap are perfect for that type of army.

Thanks for clearing that up. Problem is the game has really died in Ireland so I'm going to struggle to rustle up a few players

Those are normal games for AoS. The kill everything battleplan is the introductory one. Spyro_Killer wrote:Thanks for clearing that up. Maybe see if people are willing to give it a go and play doubles...something like Watchtower or The Ritual battleplans are great starts.
