Hey guys so im looking at purchasing a Aegis defence line to include in my 1500 points marines list. Is it still worth taking?

I’ve not fielded mine in a while.

With the change in the skyfire/interceptor rules, the quadgun is not as good as it used to be.

You need to use a CAD to have a slot for fortifications. So if you are building a formation based list, you are out of luck.

Depending on who you are facing across the table, cover saves aren’t what they used to be.

That said, there still are some things you can do with it. And it doesn’t cost a lot of points.

But if I had it to do over again, I’d spend my hobby budget elsewhere.

@Nevelon Hey man, if you don't want it, I need 3 for a 30k force

beyond that, I like them, but they are useful situationally. Guardsmen, gunlines, and anything that can be static and has a low armor save will benefit from it, and like Nevelon said, you need to bring a CAD. If you're a stubborn traditionalist, or a 30k player, this is an okay investment, otherwise not so much.

I'll never be able to repay CA for making GW realize that The Old World was a cash cow, left to die in a field.

I used to love using an Aegis to provide mid-field cover for my 20 scouting Flesh Hounds. Now that Forts have to be deployed witht he rest of your army (i.e. in your deployment zone) that killed that tactic.

If you play Tau, Guard, or some other pure gunline list, Aegis is definitely worth it. Otherwise I would say no.

If you look at options besides the quad gun, there are some tricks you can utilize as well. Ammo dump or com relay come to mind.

They are not useless, but their heyday is past IMHO.

@Brennonjw - Even if I don’t field it often, I still like to have the option. Plus, I’ll need if for when I eventually make a display board for my Ultras.

I plan to use one with a Comms Relay to assist my mass-deep striking Nids list. You probably don't need that for marines, though, even with Drop Pods.

St. Peter don't you call me 'cause I can't go. I owe my soul to GW's store.

Oh god, I remember that trick. Necron players with scarab swarms and a mid-field Aegis, so you can't even see them to shoot them! I'm much happier with fortifications in your deployment zone!

They can be fun, but like said before, are highly situational. They're really good/fun for holding objectives or for a shooting army. Stick some grots behind it, use their better BS to take some shots at Flyers or Skimmers, and make them nigh invulnerable due to LoS. Also, you can upgrade it for 10ish points to give it a Barbed Wire, so everyone who assaults you over it has to take a Dangerous Terrain test. They can also give some good cover saves to Predators/Whirlwinds/Shooty Dreads.

Again, they're situational, but a barebones Aegis Line and Quad Gun is about the cost of 7 Tac Marines, so if you keep it cheap, it can be fun and semi useful.

Yeah, they're situational. Personally I like the Bunker better, especially if you're running Devastators or something similar that can sit inside and shoot things - you can upgrade it with the same gun, still have an ammo cache inside, and then protect it all with a void shield, all for less than a kitted-and-meched-up tac squad.
