Hey all played at the Baltimore Regionals yesterday. It was a great time, some really nice players showed up. The store had 16 pre-registered players, strangely enough only 14 showed up. There was quite a variety of builds and NOT a single Shpere, Tac Cube, Diamond, shuttle, or Fighter squad.

I came in with

Officer Exchange Dom/Rom

28 Assimilated Galor
03 Gul Mecet
05 Gul Madred
05 Mag Charges
02 Romulan Helmsman
04 Cloaked Mines

28 Assimilated Galor
03 Donatra
05 Mag Charges
04 Cloaked Mines
03 Quark (Cloaked Mines)

Unfortunately my blind was the Ferengi, so not really adding much to my fire power.

Nunk's Marauder
Nunk
Weapon Ports
Geodesic Pulse
Omag

As it turned out the Mag Charges were a bit of a waste. I was expecting to see a bunch of Fed defense builds but there really weren't many. Most players were really going for a slug fest.

Round 1 was against a great guy named Joseph he was running a:

Officer Exchange Fed/8472
Prometheus
Dukat
Riker (Hood)
...and stuff

Bioship Beta
Picard 9
Admiral (whichever fed one is 1 point, can't remember his name)

He got the Kazon as his blind.

It was a long day so some details are fuzzy. I know he took out Donatra fast. I got Dukat off the Prometheus with Madred and I managed to take out the Bioship. He got me down to just the Ferengi and I was trying to pull him back into the mines. I can't remember if he got Nunk or not. I do remember I lost and only got points for Dukat and the Bioship. It was a fun game and Joseph was a super nice guy.

Round 2 was against Alex I think. He had:

Assimilated Galor
Dukat
Madred
Mag Charges

ISS Enterprise
Spock
Sulu
Forward Weapons Grid
Multi Targeting Phaser Banks
...and stuff

His blind was the MU Vor'Cha.

I destroyed the Vor'Cha quickly and set up my mind field. I zigged when I should have zagged and lost Mecet. He got Donatra off her ship with Madred but had to get his Dukat ship out of position and stuck in the mine field to do it. His ISS Enterprise pumped out some shots but the combined fire from Nunk and the Galor took it out. Dukat was taken out trying to turn around in the mines. So there was a win .

Round 3 was against a nice guy but I can't remember his name. He had:

Prometheus
Picard
Admiral Hayes

USS Defiant
Riker (Hathaway)
Type 8
Upgraded Phasers
...and stuff

He got the Lakota as his blind (lucky guy)

He jumped ahead with the Prometheus doing a 5 the using the ship ability to go 2 more. He was able to hit Mecet for 4 shields but he was in range of both Donatra and Mecet. I stripped his shields and a hull damage. I slowed his other ships with my mines. I was a ble to move Mecet up and Madred Picard and force the Prometheus to bump. Donatra finished off the Prometheus. Mecet threw a 5 die Mag Charge at the Defiant knocking out a lot of shields. Nunk took off the last shield. Riker took some shields off Donatra. Next turn Mecet took out the Defiant with his Mag Charges then it was hunting down the Lokota through my mines. So there was win #2, looking better.

Round 4 was against Rich with a:

USS Enterprise (TOS)
Kirk 9
Talent (Cheat Death)
Talent (Cheat Death)
Admiral Q
Quinn
Type 8
Sakonna
Tactical Stations
Upgraded Phasers
...Some other Stuff.

Relora Sankur
Dukat
Boheka
Breen Aid

His blind was the Bajoran.

I used Madred on Kirk early to get those Cheat Deaths out of the way. He got Mecet. Nunk and Donatra got the Enterprise. The Bajoran flew into the mines and I rolled 3 hits taking it out Dukat caught Donatra napping and I was left with Nunk vs Dukat on a fully healthy Relora. I managed to use Geodesic Pulse for some really fancy flying and got behind Dukat. I had 2 turns of shooting at him and I did destroy it BUT he had another Cheat Death on Dukat. So he had one hull left. We played a long cat and mouse game we were each down to 1 hull and he got me first. I lost but it was probably the most entertaining game of the day. I have new found respect for Geodesic Pulse.

Because of my points I was number 7 of the Top 8

First Round of top 8 was against an awesome opponent named Brian. He was running:

Bioship
Picard
Cloaked Mines

Bioship
Dukat
Admiral Ross

Vulcan Blind

I wasn't built well to take on multiple Bioships. I did Madred Picard and later take out his ship, but it was down hill after that. I lost but Brian was an awsome guy so I don't mind.

The top player was Ben with an amazing loaded up Robinson that could make 3 attacks in one turn with about 8 dice. He also had a well decked out ISS Defiant and the Kazon blind.

I have to give a shout out to my buddy Bill. He made it to 2nd place with a nasty Romulan build

Scimitar
Kar
Mendak
IG

Valdor
Khan (Reliant)
Quark (Projected Stasis Field, no faction penalty because of Khan)

He got the MU Vor'Cha.

In all it was a great day lot of great players and some fun games. It was great to see such a variety of builds, especially the amazing Robinson. There was so much on that thing I can't remember it all. Keep an eye on the WK site, I'm sure they will post it. The prize support was amazing all of the top 4 got the next wave of ships, the top 2 got 5 random blinds and the top player got a full brick and all prizes were cumulative, So the top guy walked out with 18 ships.

I was happy to make the top 8. I already had the Ferengi and was able to trade to one I got for another Romulan. I am now the proud owner of 19 D'Deridex clas Warbirds . So fun times, sorry no picks it was a busy day.

Glad to hear it was a healthy turnout and even more that your opponents were sound players and gents, having done a few tourneys for 40k, it's the opposing players that make or break the event, never minded facing a cheesy list, always hated playing against a douche though.

PS - I think you got the Ferengi because it could smell all the other Ferengi ships you own... Which reminds me, high time we saw another of your cool batreps eh?

Very true I am a sucker for the Ferengi, I even bought another of Quark's Treasure because the store had it at 50% off

I hope to get back to some battle reports soon. I have to try and find a day where I can get my wife or buddy to play a game. We just got back from vacation last week so we have to put life back together first, right now my kids have legos all over my gaming table I have a couple scenarios for our Fed/Romulan war written up so we may play those first. I need to write up something for TOS, I have 5 Tholians, should do something with them

Congrats! Sounds like you had a great time. And I loves some of those builds! I liked your buddy Brian's build. Makes me want to play "anything goes" and not faction pure. But I know what kind of Pandora's Box that is.

This regional sounds like it went fairly smooth and nothing like some of the stuff I've been seeing come out of the New York regional. Looks like you had Cloaked Mines, and a few others had Cloaked Mines. Did you see any fighters? Did anyone run a anti-flighter build? Did anyone run an anti-mines build? It would seem that just the threat of the anti-fighter cards is making people shelve the fighter spam lists. Nothing for mines yet though. :(

MU Bashar on a shuttlecraft uses his ability on a target ship (that ship must attack Bashar's ship), then Bashar's shuttle craft docks with a Borg Cube (there was some free action economy on the shuttlecraft). It was ruled that the target ship cannot attack because the target ship is no longer in play. I'm not sure what to make of that ruling.

Hmm... the Bashir thing is a little weird.

The one of the few we had was that one guy had Unimatrix Shielding under Quark for the first 4 games. The judges said it wasn't allowed because they shields have to be added during fleet building and Quark is revealed during the game. It wasn't discovered until we were about to start the top 8. The TO allowed him to change the build and keep playing. Some of us didn't think that was exactly fair because he had played his way into the top 8 with an illegal build, but oh well.

Nope, no fighters at all. Everyone was convinced they would get chewed up by Weapon Ports and Upgraded Phasers. I think a build with two sets of fighters would have done alright because no one built specifically to take them on.

Also I think Brian was the only other person running cloaked mines and he only had one. The guy with the USS Defiant build had an upgrade from the Pegasus that reduces mine damage. That was about the only anti mine card I saw. I expected to see a few Multi Adaptive Shields and there wasn't even 1. Most people either sucked it up and went through them or played the long game and went around.
