Has anyone ever soloed a game with a couple of armies they had just to throw some dice and move some pieces around? I don't get many opportunities to play but have 2 full armies. I understand tactics can't really happen as you already know what you're going to do. But has anyone tried this?

I just started my second army after playing DA for 12+ years. Once I had enough admech to field a proper army painted up, I ran a couple games through as vs to actually see how they performed vs paper. Just to get my first feel for it.

You can play online using vassal and there are some verry old solo RPG modules in the old white dwarfs and dungeon magazines. I don't know for sure but I assume that there might just be some verry old Rogue trader warhammer esque rules as well.

An alternative could be to make it an old email based game if you have the luxery to preserve the gaming table for days. Just mail pctures of the board and wait for the orders of your opponent.

I do this all the time, especially if I want to try out some new units/tactics, or just throw some dice around.

I find as long as I play to win for both sides, it's pretty fun during times when I can't get an opponent.

No, but I roll dice by itself just to see how many SM I can kill...

I don't get out much, as you might expect.

The randomness of tacos help inspire various strategies while solo play. I have yet to solo play, but when I assemble my admek I can have some good old robot fights between them and my dreddmob.

Nothing wrong with it. It's hard to find players when you get that 40k itch. It helps me get a feel for a unit while putting an army together. Here is a pic of one such game, that took quite a few hours. Namely because I was playing zombie hordes and IG hordes lol.

This one in particular was actually to test all the terrain I made to see if I needed more.

Not yet but mostly due to not having a table to use for all the models. I have considered it though just for fun.

Also I bet the special campaign missions could be fun to solo if you have the models. They could be tweaked for different armies too.

I do it all the time, it's how you test ideas. Plus certain armies have dedicated strategies you can pick up on and work on countering.

I was talking about tactical objectives. It's best to use them when you play yourself to help inspire how you play two armies at once. Otherwise it's just try to have them table each other.

Guy in my gaming group has several armies, and every night it seems he is running a new game. He practiced with his Bugs many nights before facing off against Tau in the league. I have considered it myself several times but I'm Tau and CSM so I would just pretty much kill myself every time.

I am definitely considering it. I have about 4 different armies and don't get out much (to a FLGS). I am really just waiting to get another table in my hobby room to use as a gaming space.

I've played 40k by myself. The trick is to play each side by the rules, don't fudge, and don't give preference to any one side, play each army to win.

It takes discipline but it can be done!

Armies: Space Marines, IG, Tyranids, Eldar, Necrons, Orks, Dark Eldar.
I am the best 40k player in my town, I always win! Of course, I am the only player of 40k in my town.

Yeah, it was pretty fun. I had a 3 day weekend and the wife was out of town. Played a 2K game against myself on the floor. Just be honest with yourself and play wholeheartedly.

It sucked superbad when my space wolves were tabled turn 3, but it happened!

Played a Tau vs Orks game by myself to test out some terrain in my basement board. Tabled my Orks on turn 3, felt bad for myself getting tabled. Also felt I was a power gamer tool who pays to win with Tau. Haven't play myself since.

Never played a game, but sometimes I'll roll a shooting phase to kinda get a feel for a squad during list building.

Used to do the same thing in MTG. Whenever I edited the deck, I'd play 3 sets of 5 turns to kinda get a feel for the changes.

I do it using campaigns from the IA books. They are fun and fluffy and you can get to try units/missions you usually would never play whilst telling a story

I guess when you table yourself you feel bad but then happy then feel bad again. But then realize one army did well so you're happy again! Ha

Funny that this popped up, I havent played in almost 2 months, and have built a semi competitive list and a really fluffy fun list I have been wanting to try out, so the other night I was wondering if I would be able to do this objectively.

When I was a kid I used to play chess against myself but even then I found it hard to stay objective and ended up routing for one side most of the time lol

Well, I used to do this a couple of times, especially if I want to find how good some units/formations are.
Generally, its better to play a cc oriented army vs. a shooty army. This distinction makes it easier to apply specific tactics as the opponent can see it coming.
