Subject: Can Characters join other Characters to make their own squad?

For example Death Jesters for the clowns. Could I join three seperate Death Jesters into 1 squad and carry them around in a Starweaver Transport? They should be able to pump out 9 S6 bladestorm shots per turn in addition to the 6 S6 shots from the Starweaver.
Lastly if an Character (Death Jester) is attached to another regular troop squad (Troupes) and they get out of the transport, could the Death Jester just stay inside the transport and detach from them at any time while they go assault something?
What's the difference between just a character vs independent character? Death Jester is an independent Character.
Help!

Yes, its in the very first paragraph of the Independent Character rules on page 166 of the main rulebook. The other question is covered on page 81 in the 'Independent Characters and Transports' rules.
Independent Characters are Characters with the 'Independent Character' rule.

Just characters can NEVER leave the squad they're attached to.
I recommend pairing a death jester with a Shadowseer with Starmist Raiment. Because she psychics in the psychic phase, she is free to run every shooting phase for the 3++ save, and she's not required to psychic the same target the Death Jester wants to shoot!

Ok so yes they can join say two other death jesters to form 1 squad and go into a transport together.
No they cannot detach from a squad they are attached to.
So Characters are just basically dudes who can take challenges and be "look out Sir" ed on. IC get all the special stuff.

It is to the title of the post, and if DorianGray is unfamiliar with the Unit Types and Special Rules of the units in question.
Character is a unit type which grants the model access to Challenges and Look Out Sir! Independent Character is a Special Rule which allows a model to join other units and have an improved Look Out Sir! roll. It also improves a unit's Leadership test for recovering from Falling Back.
Models with the unit type (Character) and with the Independent Character special rule may leave units they join, and either continue as single model units or join another unit.
However, models with the unit type (Character), but WITHOUT the Independent Character special rule do not have permission to either join or leave any unit than listed in their Datasheet.
