I downloaded Vassal, I'd love for someone to log on and play with me. You'd need to be patient though, I've never actually played 40K yet. Is there another program people use to play? Seems like there's only 4-6 people on Vassal at any point. I'm online now as SneakyDragon.

I wish I could! Unfortunately I don't have a reliable computer of any sort. Just no time to get a new one!

thats because vassal is outdated as heck compared to the current game. easily months of work behind the current 40k game. and well if you cant play with the things you want to its a bit of a dissappointment. its unfortunate i know, you could try asking on r/40kvassal on reddit but theres no guarantee that you will get anyone to play with you there. that subreddits kinda on the quiet side

Eh, nevermind. I don't think 40K is the game for me. Just played my first ever game.. did 500 points with a Herald of Khorne and 3x squads of 14 bloodletters. My opponent had about 20 space marines, and a Wolf Lord guy. On my first turn, the warp storm killed my HQ leader. Then opponent charged the Wolf guy across the map and smashed into my units, killed 2 entire groups of bloodletters. I couldn't even hurt him.. he only needed to roll 2s to avoid damage. The rest of my bloodletters were shot to pieces.
It wasn't much fun. Learned some of the basics of the game, but felt very underwhelming overall. :/

Vassal isn't dead at all. Most of the time there are more players playing there then in your average gaming store. ; )
@ Sneaky dragon. 40k can be fun but some builds are harder to play. In general games are more fun if the lists are more matched and being crushed in any first game you play is never fun. If you want to have a better idea of the positive side of the game look at some friendlier battle reports.
This site has a lot of good battle reports and tutorials.

But there are many other groups and companies who make videos like front line gaming and many others
