Played my first single player tournament this weekend. Took and eldar list with imperial knight allies. I had a Wraithknight, 5 scythe guard in a serpent, 2x 3 scatter bikes, a jet seer and a warlock. I then had 2 imperial Knights. I placed 5th overall and the only problem I had was against a mechanicus war convocation. Played that guy twice and was beaten twice. I basically tabled 3 other opponents and beat a 4th. I was very happy with how it went, but there was less skill involved than I'd hoped. I've always played Iyanden, but with the sheer power of all things Wraith in the Craftworld book I'm switching to Saim Hann. So I've come up with this new lost for the next one. Please let me know what you think.
Eldar Craftworld War host.
Core - Windrider battle host.
Farseer, bike, spear, spirit stone
2 x Warlocks, 2 x Spears.
2 x Vypers, each with dual cannons and holo fields
3 x 3 scatter bikes
Auxiliaries
Engines of Vaul - 2 x Fire Prism with holo fields
Engines of Vaul - 2 x Fire Prism with holo fields
Engines of Vaul - 2 x Night Spinners with holo fields
Crimson Death - 3 X Crimson hunters, all with bright lances. 1 exarch.
1848 points. What do people think??

Holo fields on vypers aren't really necessary. Vypers die if you look them the wrong way so keep them as cheap as possible. I don't know if you are trying to be less competitive but you dont have enough troops on the table. I find that you need at least 15 bikes to be more competitive and be able to claim objectives.

Yeah the lack of troops has me concerned, and it looks like you have 120 points invested in holofields, I’d take them off to allow for an autarch on bike with a reaper missile launcher (forgot its name, but hey you’re on a relentless platform so may as well use it… this allows you more flexibility and reliability with your reserves.
Crimson Death is solid
Nightspinners are nice with the barrage & flamer templates
I’d be tempted to run warp hunters instead of Fireprisms but that’s just me
I have to question the use of the Warhost since you aren’t really getting any bonuses for it and its forcing you to take the conclave when it seems like you don’t want it… in either case a CAD would suit you better and give you more freedom and more MSU bikes for your Saim Hann theme.

I went wind rider host for fluff. In my local meta Eldar are crazy powerful. The tournament I've just played I came 5th. 4 of the top 5 included Eldar. 3 included a Wraithknight. So I am trying to tone it down a bit and actually work for a victory. I've added in vypers for Saim Hann fluff. But I do think a CAD without them and more scatter bikes would be more effective. I suppose I can keep this for friendly. I'll get to list fiddling. Automatically Appended Next Post: Do people really think holo fields are a bad investment? I find them invaluable.

Thats what I'm getting at, you don't need to do the CAD for competitiveness, rather to give you some flexibility to take more fluffy options...
As for the holofields, yes I like them on a few choice units but wouldn't like to hand them out as freely as you have. For instance with a Lynx that can't really jink if it wants to fire, I'd give it holofields and spirit stones to ensure it doesn't have to. Since you have soo many tanks and vypers, the investment really isn't worth it. Nightspinners can barrage from LOS blocking stuff and fire prisms should be able to scrape a cover save off something... but vypers really don't need it

The only reason to get a Warhost is if you intend to get an aspect host (for the +1 buff) or Wraith constructs (for multiple wraithknights). Other than that the CAD gives way more flexibility on army construction.
Holofields are nice but not as nice as they used to. I give them on Falcons if I have points to spare and on Lynx cause it needs to fire every turn. The upgrade costs way to much to spam on every tank.

The night spinners are an interesting choice - maybe a local meta thing? I've never found them that useful, but I also play against a lot of SM.
You could swap out a Vyper and a tank for an Aspect Host of you want more bodies on the field, maybe.

Ok, so I've worked on the list. I've come up with something a little different, arguably more competitive.
Eldar Craftworld CAD
HQ - Farseer, bike
HQ - Warlock Conclave, 2 x warlocks, bikes (Farseer goes here)
Troops - 5 x 3 scatter bikes
Heavy Support - 2x Fire Prisms, Holo fields
Heavy Support - 2x Fire Prisms, Holo fields
Heavy Support - 2x Night Spinners, Holo fields
Formation - Crimson Death, 3x Crimson Hunters, Exarch, all bright lances.
1850 on the nose.
Amy better?

As long as this is 5 units of 3 bikes I agree

I'd still say they'd be room for a fluffy Autarch leading then to also help with your reserves roll.
Reduce the number of scatter lasers if you're still wreaking face and job done
either way the list now looks a lot more healthy

I don't know how to run the autarch though. I'd like him on a bike. I can find the points from holo fields and I can find the space by going double CAD. But where to put him? In with the seer and warlocks?

Yep, in the conclave with a fusion gun or even in a bog standard scatbike group with a missile launcher

Not sure why you're going with the Warhost at all, really. The detachment bonus doesn't benefit anything you're bringing, and the Windrider host's benefit is for one turn, and doesn't work for Scatterlasers. Plus, you lose ObjSec.
What is your intention, exactly?

The original intention was to go fluff based and make use of formations. Then realising that the engines of Vaul rules apply to squadrons in a CAD and the Crimson death can be taken as an allied formation you'll see that I've switched to a CAD half way down specifically for Obsec on the scatter bikes.

Haha. No worries. I started out with the Windrider host with a thought to go fluffy and make use of the bonus. Considered an aspect host in serpents for example. Fire dragons with an auto 6" run is nice. But once I'd selected the units I wanted it quickly became apparent that in gaining nothing from the detachment and losing obsec. Hence I switched.

Yeah, I wanted to stick to fluffy as well, so I started picking up some Guardians and a Wave Serpent. Then I realized that they lose Objsec, and 75% of the formations/units don't even benefit from the detachment, or are god awful expensive (Looking at you, Wraithhost). I quickly lost interest in the Warhost after that.

Ditto. I really wanted to make the war host work. To be honest, a foot-dar list with a guardian battle host and then aspect shrines is about the only useful one. Guaranteed 6" run and free weapon upgrades is quite nice. But for Saim Hann lists you really do gain very little.
