According to the fluff, Salvo weapons are supposed to be bigger, more rapid firing versions of rapid fire weapons. These days, unlike back in 3rd edition, it doesn't matter if you move or not when firing Rapid Fire weapons. It's always the same. But Salvo weapons are affected by your Movement, halving your range and usually your number of shots as well. For me this doesn't sit right. Especially since these days
40k is a game of movement.
Lets take Hot-Shot Volley Guns for example. If the unit stands still great, you can fire lots of shots at full range. Start moving around however, and now your range and shots both drop by 50%. This is problematic, because only Stormtroopers (sorry, Scions

) can take them. And Scions are supposed to be shock troops who spearhead attacks and thus need to keep moving to be effective. I would never take Hot-Shot Volley Guns at present because of the down sides.
So I have a suggestion. Let's literally make Salvo weapons into more powerful Rapid Fire weapons with this adjustment:
When a model makes a shooting attack with a Salvo weapon, it can choose to either fire the smaller number of shots at up to the maximum range, or the larger number of shots at up to half of the maximum range.
I've literally reversed the current rule set. This is unaffected by movement, and of course you can't assault in the same turn unless you're relentless or slow and purposeful.
Looking at it now, Salvo weapons perfectly compliment Rapid Fire weapons, and Scions could unleash hell at short range after Deep Striking beside a key enemy target. Hot-Shot Volley Guns instantly become more competitive when compared to plasma guns, provided that you aren't looking to kill
TEQs.
What do you guys think?
