Hi,
I use to paint Warhammers
40k 20yrs ago when I was 9. I think I was pretty good at it too! I remember coming 2nd place in a figure painting competition my local games workshop held in Cardiff. (
Warhammer world was on this day, so alot of the hardcore player/painters weren't in the shop )
One day I was able to afford a new box of
metal Space Marine scouts, I wanted to build a small scout army and just play small skirmish battles or jump onto other peoples games in the local shop, just focusing on my scouts. This never came to light as I didn't think I was good enough to paint these marines to a pro standard, which I believed they deservered.. so the boxed just got tucked away for 2 decades.
As of last week I've decided to finally paint them and hopefully have epic battles on table tops. I've done a little bit of research and I'd like to start a Space Marine: Black Templar army. From my understanding thise chapter doesn't have scouts, but Neophytes, which are just trainee initiates?
Anyways my army of '5' scouts Has.. grown in just 1 week. to this;
1x Land speeder storm
1x Razorback
1X Rhino
1x 5man command squad
1x 5man combat squad
1x5man Assault suqad
1x5man terminator squad
2x10man tactical squad
1x10man scout squad ( bolt pistol and swords) / metal*
2X5man scout squad (bolters/shotgun/heavy)
2x Telions ( I thought he looked epic and wanted to paint 1 black templars and the other ultramarine for a showcase stand ) / metal*
1x Emperors champion / metal*
1xBlack Templars upgrade kit ( I really don't believe that box is worth 20quid!!)
And I bought 2x 3man space marine starter/paint kits to start on.
I started construction of my army yesterday 21/02/2016, I painted all 3 space-marine starter models witht he starter brush;
Overall I'm actually really happy with the end result! It has been 20years since i picked the brush up! I've got lots to learn (about the game and painting) but currently I'm really enjoying the hobby again.
I've got lots to talk about! Some being the struggles I encountered whilst painting those 3 marines, especially with the shoulder pads!
Though I did buy some detail brushes and gave the 4th marine a quick spin today;
I testing without a base coat and just primer on him... not too sure yet! Also been using Eshin grey as a highlight - believe I need to go thinner and brighter.
