Unhealthy Competition With Other Legions

Good day, everyone.
I'll be playing in a store tournament this weekend, and am really stuck between two lists. These are your Standard Palp and pals lists, but just thought I'd get some input.
I really, really want to use both Wampa and Omega Leader (fully loaded) in both lists; however, this means I don't have the ability to take an ideal Soontir Fel.

List 1:
Vader, x1, VI, ATC
Wampa
Omega Leader, Juke, Comm Relay
Omicron Pilot, Emperor Palpatine

I like the idea of bringing Vader, but don't have the points for an EU. I think this makes Vader a damage dealer, trying to arc dodge with just the barrel roll.

List 2:
Turr Phennir, Royal guard TIE, AT, Stealth Device, VI
Wampa
Omega Leader, Juke, Comm Relay
Omicron Pilot, Emperor Palpatine

Going for a poor man's Fel here by using the still decent Turr with all the goodies.

Thoughts? Thanks in advance.

I would go with the Vader list. Darth Vader makes their target priority more difficult to decide. Turr Phennir dies like a TIE Fighter if you point more than two guns at him.

Vader also has the all powerful ATC and PS 11. A range 1 shot (with focus and an extra crit from Palpatine) could destroy anyone short of Wedge or Han before they get a shot, provided they're wounded by Wampa and Omega in previous rounds.

good luck in the tournament.

Thanks for the input!

I was thinking along the target priority lines as well; I find that people in Xwing (and in 40k) gravitate towards the greater perceived threat (although Vader is a beast) when other things out there are just as deadly.

I've seen a vary similar list run to great success, except using Marek Steele instead of Vader/Tur.

List 1 seems like the way to go. Use Wampa and Vader to nuke as many enemy ships as possible. Bait with Vader and Wampa, then play very aggressive with the ship that your opponent ignores. Your goal will be to eliminate as much as the enemy list as possible. If you can get to and end game where it's Omega Leader vs one enemy ship, you'll probably win.

Turr Phennir relies more on pure positional play than dice results, and so has less synergy with Palpatine than Fel or Vader. I think he makes more sense as a Secondary Ace, rather than the lynchpin of your list.

This one.

This list was in the top 4 at a Store Championship I attended last week and it was the only list I lost against (I came in fifth place thanks to my less-than-stellar MOV). Wampa will be the priority target and for good reason; he's a 14 point TIE fighter than can wipe a 40+ point super ship from the board in two turns. Your best tactic will be to keep him and the Palpmobile in the back and snipe with Wampa at range 3 whenever possible (hopefully with Palpatine's ability still available to guarantee a damage card being dealt).

Hey everyone.
Thanks for the advice.
I ended up taking the Vader list to the tournament (small store tourney, about 12 players, 3 rounds), and walked away with a first place finish! (100-0, 100-29, 100-0)
The list is a beast - the target priority issues make it hard on opponents to decide what's most dangerous, and OL is frightening in action when everything works.

I will have to say that my dice were HOT (offensively and defensively)... and I mean truly scorching, as I think Vader rolled 1x blank red the entire day. He ended up with an impressive tally of Soontir, Talonbane, and Chiraneau (and some generics) across three games.

I just wanted to share the list that gave me the biggest challenge, and it was almost a mirror of mine: Palpshuttle, Wampa, Soontir Fell (all kitted out), and Epsilon Leader (comm relay). He was using the Epsilon leader to continually de-stress his shuttle (and Soontir as necessary), but I felt it was a wasted slot, since it meant trying to keep EL in range 1 of the Lambda...so basically it meant he was taking on my list with Fel and Wampa. His Wampa went down hard in one round of shooting to Vader/OL. I tend to use my shuttle aggressively, so I used it to wear down his shuttle, and although I ended up losing my shuttle to Soontir, I took his shuttle out with a crazy unmodified 2 hit roll from OL against his remaining 2 hull points....he rolled an evade...and I flipped it to a focus, which he couldn't do anything about thanks to being TL by OL.

Epsilon Leader died soon after, and after an uncharacteristically bad movement by Fel, he was in Vader's crosshairs at range 1. I roll 2 hits, 1 crit, and add a crit from ATC for 4x total....he rolls all blanks on evade. Game over.
I want to stress that my opponent is an excellent pilot; however, my dice were crazy and his were bad. It sucks when that happens, but hey, it does happen.

Again, thanks for the advice; this is a fun list to use!

Just wondering if you can explain how/ why you stacked Juke and comms relay... in my head I'm not seeing how they work together

Omega Leader does not allow modification of dice AT ALL as long as the target being fired upon or firing is target locked by OL. Comms Relay allows you to keep one evade token at the end of the end phase (meaning it's still on you at the beginning of the next turn when it would normally would have been removed) thus you can take a second action, like a focus, you get more hits on your red dice, and using juke, can change an opponents green die from an evade to a eye, which then can not be changed back with focus or lone wolf or any other modification, due to OL's pilot ability as long as you have the target of your attack target locked.

The Comm's Relay allows OL to perform other actions by holding onto his Evade token until he REALLY needs it. It saves you actions, so you can spend those actions doing other things (likely TL).

Juke downgrades the defender's Evade to a Focus, which the defender can't get back because if OL performed a TL action on his target, they are not allowed to modify dice.

Basically, you take a preparatory Evade action during T1 when you're almost certainly out of reach of the enemy in the first place. You hold onto that token via Comm Relay and as your next action you TL your target. Now you have both the Evade token to downgrade a defense roll, AND the TL to ensure they can't readjust the die BACK to an evade.

Because Comms Relay means you always have an evade token to use Juke.

Take an evade action on the first turn and carry it with you, using it only as a last resort. Between having three natural agility, a focus token (which will be the default action after you evade the first turn and acquire a target lock), Omega Leader's canceling any dice modification for the attacker, and Palpatine's ability, your chances of need to use your Juke evade token are pretty low.

bocatt covered it pretty well. It's murder against low agility ships and automatic damage against agility 1 ships since they won't be able to get an evade.
Combined with Palpatine, you can easily force 2-3 damage (depending on range) on a target, which your opponent can really do nothing about.
