So while I do like the as I understand it, 'new' white colour scheme of the Tau on the boxes, I've always been partial to ones like this:

That is a very nice scheme, I was wondering what i was going to paint my tau too.

Honestly, I don't have a lot to add for color recommendations, but you've inspired me so I'll look around

I found this guide which looks the same, and I have all the colours (or Vallejo alternatives) http://taleofpainters.blogspot.co.uk/2013/04/tutorial-how-to-paint-tau.html

Would doing them like this achieve the same result anyone think?

Absolutely, taleofpainters are quite accurate with their guide results. Garfy does a classic GW style too.

well, almost done with the first fire warrior squad.. I forgot how tedious building the small troops was. but I knew I should get it out of the way before the fun battlesuits.
