I have an old army, from when the last SoB had a printed codex under Witchhunters.

I have a number of questions I'm having difficulty answering myself in regards to list building for SoB

1: with little to no updates, is this even a viable army to even try to play at all?. interested to hear from recent or current SoB players themselves. my alternative plan is to sell and purchase a new faction.

2: A girl i play D&D with told me army building is basically take whatever you want in the point cost? is this true? im still in the mind set of HQ and 2 troop choices as a must.

3: aircraft, i see most armies got some aircraft unit since. do sisters get access to any imperial ones? should i even be that concerned.

4: I'm looking to slow grow a new list at 500pts (stripping and repainting). the following is what i have. I would like to construct something fast attack focused, getting up and close as fast as possible.

- celestine
- canoness
- 10 seraphim
- 4x full box squads of sisters troops
- full squad of repentia
- 2 immolators
- 2 exorcist
- 4 rhinos
- 2 heavy flamers
- 3 icon bearer sisters
- 1 medic sister

You are able to take whatever you want now, even from other armies...It is called an unbound list. IT looses a few benefits but gives complete freedom in list building, Everywhere I have seen it is not vry popular and the major tournaments dont allow it.

The thinking of 1HQ 2 Troop is what we now call a Combined Arms Detachment. It allows all your troop choices and their dedicated transports to become Objective Secured, which is a super scoring unit, now that all units are scoring. IT also allows you to reroll your warlord trait if you dont like what you get.

There are also all sorts of formations that allow you to take certain units and gain bonuses. But to my knowledge sisters have none.

They also do not have a flyer, but you can ally with all other armies of the imperium as battle brothers to get flyers if needed. You can take an allied detachment which is compulsory 1 HQ 1 Troop and optional 1 additional troop fast attack, elite, and HS. Or you could ally in a formation as is.

I would never recomend selling your sisters, they are still very popular, even if not considered competitive.

As far as getting up and personal as fast as possible, SoB are not a very strong melee army, and their S/T/I 3 is not exactly what you want trying to beat down some of the more elite melee units. Your strength is power armor BS 4 bolters, heavy weapons for cheaper than marines, but without the marines power units.

Just know it will always be an uphill battle. If you want to even the odds I would consider adding in some form of allies, or even just keeping your SoB to use as allies and starting another army. If you are looking for fast, SM Bikes/Pods, SW TWC Wulfen pods, or if you are looking to go outside of the imperium....Eldar, DEldar and Harlequins are all very fast and mobile.

Also, it's worth pointing out that the current SoB codex is from 6th edition. Sisters don't get a whole lot of crunch-love, but they're not actually all that out-of-date.

That said, they absolutely do benefit from allies. Repentia are hard to use if you try to footslog them, and sticking them in Rhinos is almost worse - but if you put them in an allied Land Raider, Stormraven or Stormwolf, they can be a seriously nasty surprise (that's a lot of S6 AP2 Armorbane attacks, and oh, the Priest buffs...) Get ye some Priests, since they're easily the best thing in our Codex. Imperial Guard gets them (theirs are ICs, but with very limited wargear), Inquisition gets them with great wargear selections but they aren't ICs - the Sisters version gets the best of both worlds for the same price. Zealot and War Hymns make all the difference in the world, if you are going to try to melee.

I don't want to hijack this thread at all, but I'm curious if anyone knows if the Sisters are going to get full plastic models anytime in the near future? I'm very interested in building a small Sisters army... absolutely LOVE the look of the Exorcist!

Long-time sister player here. I do run them in tournaments (more hobby events but still) and have had decent success with them.

We have a flier, its the Avenger Strike fighter from FW. It hits hard but is fragile and cannot hover so I only run it when I'm wanting a change. You may want an aegis with quad gun for AA. Exorcists are great. (Enemies of the sisters, don't read this next part) The best trick we have is to scout up Dominion squads and melta big threats - most people don't play against sisters so have no idea you can zip up the board and hit their line with 15+ melta shots on turn 1.

I'm sorry to say that there are very few ways to run the girls competitively and I would put them in tier 2ish. I bring what I call the melta-party, it is a mech list with 10ish vehicles and it looks something very close to this:
3 Exorcists, 3 units of 5 girl dominion squads with 4 meltas in each and an immolator for each, 4 units of 8-10 girl battle sister squads ( most with heavy flamer, flamer) in rhinos Saint Celestine and yeah that's pretty much it

scout up the meltas and pop things - exorcists go to town - troop squads drive around to objectives and shoot flamers out rhino hatches

Not as fun as they were when we were witchhunters but still good. Some swear by priests but I've not made them work. Sisters are about the shooting and maybe a counter charge with Saint Celestine. One other thing I do is give a few vehicles a loud hailer and fly Celestine nearby so she gets a reroll to resurrect. Hope this helps , don't give up on the girls and happy gaming

If you wanted to play SoB there are a few compettive options you dont see alot. (Remember Competitive doesnt mean will win tournaments, but its strong than a friendly list)
BA has a CaD from "Flesh Tearers Strike Force" that is 1 HQ, 1 Troop 1 FA, But can take up to 6 Fast Attacks. thats 6 Drop pods.

You can do a list list this:

HQ:
Canoness

Troops:
Sisters: Flamer/Heavy Flamer
Sisters: Melta/Melta

FA:
Dominions: 4x Melta
Dominions: 4x Melta
Dominions: 4x Melta

Heavy:
Retributors: 4x Heavy Flamers
Retributors: 4x Heavy Flamers
Avenger Strike Fighter

Then take the BA: Flesh Taerer with a Priest HQ, a Tac Squad with Drop pod (So you have 7 Pods total) and 6 Drop pods in FA.

This is a 1250pts List, you can cut it down to 1k Easily with 5 Drop pods for a cheap list.

you will basically drop pod all the siters leaving 1 unit on the table, the H-Flamers can Rend, the Meltas can ignore cover.

Option 2 is to do Knights, 3 Knights + some Sisters, thats a strong army as well.

option 3, you can just play SM and use the SM Fast Attacks for Drop pods and Drop in 1 Troop, 1 Dom and 1 Ret, for Alittle of everything.

The Final Option is the basic one that all SoB players know really well. Tank spam! I wont go into detail as many other will

I think Sisters are actually pretty strong at lower points. I'd argue that they're very usable at higher points as well, but I play in a meta with fewer flyers than usual and no knights or FW. When I first started I played at 500 points and I had a blast, and did quite well in my opinion. I can't remember my exact list off-hand but it was something like:

Canoness
Minimum Sisters in Immolator
Minimum Sisters in Immolator
Minimum Sisters in Immolator

Canoness had either the EW relic or a rosarius or both, and I think at the time I had no other special weapons than just flamers and a single melta but they worked well enough for me. All the Immolators had MM for anti-armor so that lone melta was usually unnecessary but I lacked models. The force was very mobile and being a CAD everything has ObSec for scoring easily.

As for your questions, most have been answered already. I don't worry about flyers but again, my meta doesn't have a ton. Most of my opponents bring 1 at most, though at tournaments I'll see 2-3 for an army or two. Your collection is a way better start than most people who are just getting into Sisters, but you seriously need meltaguns, and a few flamers and extra heavy flamers would do well also.
