I've searched and couldn't find anything conclusive, but wanted to make sure I was clear on this.
All Daemons of Nurgle count as having defensive grenades, which would allow nurglings to throw out a small blast at 8" correct?
Does blind have any limitation on gargantuan creatures?
Thanks.

I believe "count as having" and "having" are 2 different things.

The rules aren't very clear when those two things are different though. If it counts as having a defensive grenade, then it could throw the grenade that it counts as having. Admittedly, this kind of thinking pretty much removes any difference from "counts as having" and "having". The only one I can think of are that, if you looked at a wargear list, the "counts as having" unit wouldn't have it listed. But each and every time the game asks "do you have a defensive grenade?", the unit would answer "yes", including when checking whether or not said unit could throw said grenade.

I think the "count as" helps when you have units that take a mark and become "daemon of nurgle" which would give them defensive grenades without having to put it in their wargear.

I was not aware that defensive grenades could be thrown (during the shooting phase) in the first place. Happy to be wrong. Would be interested to see the BRB rules for defensive grenades.

My guess at RAI is that they intended for units charging nurgle daemons to not get the extra attack for charging. RAW you can easily argue that the Nurgle unit also gets to throw defensive grenades too though.

I'm sure that is the RAI, but I don't mind Nurgle Daemons throwing weak grenades like this. It's kind of cool, like they're hurling and vomiting gobs of pestilence.

Page 180. Has two profiles, one for Shooting(Assault 1, Blind, Blast) and then rules for when being assaulted.

"Counts as having defensive grenades," to my mind, only refers to the bonus granted by defensive grenades in the assault phase.

If you don't have x kind of grenade with a specific weapon profile, you can't throw it in the shooting phase.

Unless "defensive grenade" is the name of an actual grenade, at which point, i retract my previous assertions.

In order for that to be true, it would need to read something along the lines of '... are treated as having defensive grenades in the Assault phase...' We are given no exception as to when we don't treat them as having defensive grenades.

Is "defensive grenade" a specific weapon with an actual weapon profile?

Oh. Well that's that, then.

Seems horribly lazy on the part of the GW writers, but hey. It is what it is.

Remember Chaos Daemons is a 6th edition codex.

I'm going to play them with having defensive grenades - with them throwing nasty crap a short distance to try to blind enemies with flies doesn't seem out of the ordinary.
Also, we lost one of the rules for 6th to 7th that allowed them to have stealth with defensive grenades, so this makes up for that IMO.

Among other disgusting fluids and waste products....yuck!

"Sarg! it got in my eye! I can't see!"

I have had the wonderful experience of my Nurglings Blinding a unit that my Flesh Hounds then charged.

I could even see them throwing other nurglings that jump in the middle of a unit and explode themselves into a wondrous explosion of pus and disease.
Delicioso.

It's the worst kind of blindness. The kind you can smell.
