With the new Daemon formations requiring TONS of models, I realized I need more Hounds. I currently have 24 chaos Warhounds as my Flesh Hounds, based on 40mm (cuz 50mm is too darn big and there wasn't a "standard" when I made them). Since I would be fielding lots of MSU hounds in very close proximity to each other, I need ways to identify separate units.

That got me thinking about using VC Dire wolves. 1 box would get me 2 units of 5 Flesh hounds and I could run each unit paired with a Warhound unit so we can tell which is which. The cool thing about Dire Wolves is that they look kinda Plaquey. As Beasts of Nurgle are also on 40mm bases (according to GW website), they could easily stand in as Beasts when I am not using the Khorne formation.

I am basically doing this to rationalize buying more models that I don't need. If a model has multiple purposes, it's an easier pill to swallow.

For Painting, I would make the skin pale tan with a SLIGHT hint of green with the muscle very red (infected) and the fur would be dark brown. If I do it right, they will blend in with the other Flesh Hounds, yet look diseased to play Beasts.

Any thoughts?

I figure those dire wolves painted up in a bloody, skinned flesh tone would work beautifully. Thinking of the dogs from Resident Evil.
