Hey All,

Looking for some feedback using the Raven Guard Talon Strike Force. I noticed a few other RG TSF list topics and that got me excited to try it out. It seems like there is a question with how to exactly maximize the ignore cover special rule that is given in the detachment?

Talon Strike Force
Pinion Demi-Co
Captain- SS,AA,PF,JP
5 tacs - combi-grav, grav gun, mb
5 tacs - combi-plasma, plasma gun, mb
5 tacs - combi-melta, melta gun, mb

5 devs - 4x lascannons

5 assaults - jump packs, mb, 2x flamers

5 scouts - 5 snipers
5 scouts - combi-grav, bolters, mb
5 scouts - combi-plasma, bolters, mb
5 scouts - combi-melta, bolters, mb

Raptor Wing
Land speeder - HB
Stormtalon - Skyhammers
Stormtalon - Typhoon ML

CAD
White Scars

Captain - SS, Hunter's Eye

scouts - bolters (back field obj holder)
scouts - bolters (back field obj holder)

Drop Pod

Centurion Devastators - 3x grav cannons, 3x hurricane bolters

Aegis Defense Line - Comms Relay

Similar idea to what has been put forward before, pair scout units with tac unit with similiar weapons (grav, melta, plasma), snipers with devs. Artificer captain with the assault squad. White Scar captain helps with defending centurions when necessary, but is there primarily for the ignores cover from the relic. This unit's job would be to go after high threat targets, and being able to strike anywhere with the DP. Comms relay to maximize the turn 1 reserve capabilities if needed. Stormtalons to provide the air power and fast response. Assault squad for horde control, and counter-attack needs.

It seems when outflanking with the scout/tactical pairs, it would be smart to put the scouts in front of the tacticals so they gain an intervening cover save (get up to 2+). Scouts could go to ground for 3+ if in danger of being blown away.

So a few questions I was pondering, is there a general preference to run a single high powered heavy weapon (grav-cannon) vs a combi and special weapon in a case like this? Is it worth having the 3 different weapon types vs just going all one type (grav/melta etc). Would it be better to run a WS librarian (I'm guessing lvl2 with divination) that hides behind the centurions? Is it worth finding the points for the omniscope on the centurions?

Thanks for the feedback!

List looks good. Regarding the tac weapon loadouts, I tend to run 1 to 2 with gravcannons outflanking, sometimes with a combi grav, and then the others sitting back with the same weapon that the devs took( plasma or las). Also the librarian might be the better option for being versatile. That and when outflanking if you can find points and use grav stick the squad in a rhino.

I will second Roneck77 for the grav cannons boss. Longer range and more shots on the lower setting of salvo 3 versus 2 and 12" range rather than 9". List looks solid though. Both captains with the centurions? I would also get rid of the plasma. Unfortunately grav kind of takes it's place. Mine always overheats too, so I'm biased against it, LOL. I run 2 grav cannons outflanking and then a heavy bolter squad to camp back an through out dakka. I'm planning on running a typhon for funsies

Thanks for the feedback. I tried the initial list vs 30k admech, had a close game that I won. Lot's of high toughness with alternative saves like invulns and FNP I had to work through.

2nd game I swapped the WS captain with a libby, took away all combi and special weapons and put grav cannons with each tac squad. Still mb on all 6 outflanking units vs Tau. This game was a huge success! Ignores cover really hurts Tau, especially when going first. Intercepting Riptide only killed a couple marines due to turn 1 cover saves.

Thanks again for the suggestions, this detachment is really fun!

Ya that's where this detachment shines. They have to take your outflankers into account, but unless they're running a drone network - they won't have any markerlights for ignores cover. They beautiful thing is YOU WILL The scouts taking cover away is just so good. Coupled with ignores cover lascannons and the typhon heavy siege tank I'm going to run I'll have ignores cover everywhere! You went the centurion route, I'm going to bike route. 2 units of 3 bikes with 2x grav a piece with a lvl 2 libby casting prescience and hopefully 4+ invuls on his unit. He's got Hunter's Eye too so no cover vs those 6 grav shots Anywho, I still need to actually play the list. I'm finishing building/painting my part and my buddy is letting me borrow the white scars part. It is actually quite fluffy if you've read the Hunt for Voldorius space marines battles novel. GREAT BOOK. I highly recommend it. Shrike and Khan working together? Terrifying combination in my opinion.

Keep getting games in and let us know how they go. We gotta keep sticking up for the Pinion. It can be competitive, just need some help outside it's formation lol
