Hey All,
Looking for some feedback using the Raven Guard Talon Strike Force. I noticed a few other RG TSF list topics and that got me excited to try it out. It seems like there is a question with how to exactly maximize the ignore cover special rule that is given in the detachment?
Talon Strike Force
Pinion Demi-Co
Captain- SS,AA,PF,JP
5 tacs - combi-grav, grav gun, mb
5 tacs - combi-plasma, plasma gun, mb
5 tacs - combi-melta, melta gun, mb
5 devs - 4x lascannons
5 assaults - jump packs, mb, 2x flamers
5 scouts - 5 snipers
5 scouts - combi-grav, bolters, mb
5 scouts - combi-plasma, bolters, mb
5 scouts - combi-melta, bolters, mb
Raptor Wing
Land speeder - HB
Stormtalon - Skyhammers
Stormtalon - Typhoon ML
CAD
White Scars
Captain - SS, Hunter's Eye
scouts - bolters (back field obj holder)
scouts - bolters (back field obj holder)
Drop Pod
Centurion Devastators - 3x grav cannons, 3x hurricane bolters
Aegis Defense Line - Comms Relay
Similar idea to what has been put forward before, pair scout units with tac unit with similiar weapons (grav, melta, plasma), snipers with devs. Artificer captain with the assault squad. White Scar captain helps with defending centurions when necessary, but is there primarily for the ignores cover from the relic. This unit's job would be to go after high threat targets, and being able to strike anywhere with the DP. Comms relay to maximize the turn 1 reserve capabilities if needed. Stormtalons to provide the air power and fast response. Assault squad for horde control, and counter-attack needs.
It seems when outflanking with the scout/tactical pairs, it would be smart to put the scouts in front of the tacticals so they gain an intervening cover save (get up to 2+). Scouts could go to ground for 3+ if in danger of being blown away.
So a few questions I was pondering, is there a general preference to run a single high powered heavy weapon (grav-cannon) vs a combi and special weapon in a case like this? Is it worth having the 3 different weapon types vs just going all one type (grav/melta etc). Would it be better to run a WS librarian (I'm guessing lvl2 with divination) that hides behind the centurions? Is it worth finding the points for the omniscope on the centurions?
Thanks for the feedback!
