[I did the best with w.e I had on hand http://imgur.com/a/NAQJQ

I didn't have the professional stuff, so I used w.e spare car paint we had in the garage. Thankfully we had silver, gold, black, and a sorta metallic blue.

The first mess up started with me trying to dry my pieces still attached the to sprue by blow drying it (after using the black car paint as a base). Unfortunately my blow dryer was set to hot, so the plastic pieces deformed.

I had to reheat them and hand mold them back the best I could. the backpiece and staff is still wonky.

Then half way through painting I realized that car paint doesn't stick well to car paint (I had used the black as a base)

Then I realized car paint doesn't thin very well.

Then I realized that car paint doesn't adhere to glue very well so I had to use extra strength gorilla glue

I was pretty satisfied with my end result though, it was my very first serious paint job with subpar stuff but I was happy nevertheless

I was going to give you all kinds of pointers but then i read your post. Good Emperor man what are you doing to yourself? Sell that old baseball hat you have in the back of your wardrobe for $10 and buy some decent paint.

You did damn well for what you had to work with, but you're trying to push poo uphill with a toothpick

I think you are the first person to use car paint as a substitute for acrylic paints so congrats on that.

But I'm with kb_lock on getting some real paints, don't make life hard yourself when painting.

Thanks for all the replies. Yea I should probably get better paints.

I do like the metalic shine on the car paint for sure, but it was a ton of unneeded work, and my lungs didn't like the smell either

You could probably make use of this tutorial video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FayBHOhucf0

Seriously though. Car paints have all kinds of chemicals in that are not healthy to use for spraying or handling.

1) Invest in some matt primer (black or metalic, your choice)
2) Invest in some half decent brushes and model paints (gold, silver, greens, and blues for 'crons)
3) wait for the primer to dry, DON'T try and speed it along
4) DON'T use car paint.

I'll never be able to repay CA for making GW realize that The Old World was a cash cow, left to die in a field.
