Hey I am curious for all the Ork players out there that know of a cheap and easy way to convert to make the Mek Gunz. I have a few necron bitz I'm going to work with, but is there any suggestions on how they did it cheaply? I know some buy 1 kit to make like 3 gunz with other bits.

Any help or pics would be greatly appreciated!

This site gives a great example of how you can kitbash and create your own Mek Gunz from the existing kits. http://itslikewatchingpaintdry.blogspot.ca/2014/07/mek-gun-and-trukk-kitbash-114.html

The best method I've seen is using a Mek Gunz box and a Trukk box to make 4.

Thanks for the quick responses. I have seen that one before and I'm thinking about trying that out myself.

Yet, I am curious if there is an even cheaper way haha. Probably not, but that is definitely an awesome conversion idea

There are lots of ways buy they will not be as quick and might actually be more expensive if you bought the materials in the wrong store.

Method one. Get yourself some plastic card and scratch build them yourselves.
Method two. Learn how to sculpt
Method three. learn how to cast.

You can do all these things but don't expect them to be that good that fast. Those conversions are really good.

I just purchased 20 toy catapults/tanks from a Russian eBay toy/miniature store for under $30 including shipping. It's easy to find ones online that are about 3"x3" or so. Put them on a 60mm base for ease of gaming and you have your artillery park all ready.

I will soon be fielding my 30 Ork lobbas with rerolls

The question I have is would a battlewagon kannon mounted on a base and wheels be big enough for tournament legality?

It is a kannon and Orks are THE kitbash army of 40k so I would say it should be fine. Only the most uptight of TOs would have any issue and honestly the metal GW Kannons are really small so its rather hard to model for advantage with the BW Kannon/Zappgun.

depends on how much you want to kit bash or if you play more armies. I actually use looted equipment a lot. in the case of big gunz I like using Eldar weapons platforms that come with guardian boxes or can be purchased from bits suppliers on ebay etc. magnetize them and use the kannons from battlewagon kits. I also have a few where I just put a piece of sprue between two trukk wheels (also bought through bitz supplier putting a magnet on I and again battlewagon gunz

True, I am really wanting to see what some people have done with Necron looting or other army looting to make mek gunz but I'm not having the best of luck

Honestly the best solution i had was

Use the trukk box as shown in this video

https://youtu.be/WTgRLlOUQpA

but instead of using a mek gun box(super expensive) just grab some old used spark plugs and you got yourself 3 Smash Guns .

When life give you lemons keep them, because hey, free lemons

It may be just me, but I feel that the smaller Mek Gunz (kannon, lobba etc) are more flavourful being smaller and less flashy. They're really just basic Ork guns scaled up and placed on a trolley. Easy to explain and easy to kitbash/ convert.

That is very true, I think I'm going to get some plasticard, possibly buy a mek gun, and see if I can find some bitz. I'll probably get a document of my progress. Should be a fun experience.

It never hurts to make nice with Guard players and see if they'd be willing to part with the tripods from the heavy weapon boxes.

I've decided to just pop the back wheels off my gorkamorka rokkit buggies, and use them as lobbaz.

I used some Imperial Guard heavy weapons team weaponry to make Mek guns for my Deathskulls army. One box of Heavy Weapons squad makes all three guns (just add grots). Some pictures are in this post http://standwargaming.blogspot.co.uk/2016/03/ork-army-showcase-part-1-green-tide-pic.html

If you happen to have some killa kanz left on the shelf then you can get creative by taking off their claw, beefing/converting their gun arms, take them off their bases, add some support legs (for balance)
I have a few example of one's I've done up.

I think you are probably looking for kitbash more than scratch built, but you also mentioned "cheaper", and they don't get any cheaper than my scratch built kustom megakannons. About $3 each. (Not including time)

Those are awesome! What did you use for the wheels and gun barrels?

I used the Mechanicus Servohaulers kit as a baseline, then used bits and random cheap hose connectors from the hardware store to build mine.

I know mek gunz don't generally come with bases, but if I were to mount some converted ones on bases, what size would be most appropriate? I just want them to look good and be easy to use for gameplay purposes.

I put mine on 60mm, but they probably need to be on 70mm-80mm to make up the grots that sat around them. (since the grots are completely useless to place on the table now)

I have an idea to just turn my now defunct Rokkit Buggies into mek guns. Seems the size is pretty close, and my buggies don't have drivers anyway. Jus it have to find a suitable looking gun to mount on them.

Holy.... necro thread. I even replied then same thing 2 years ago

Didn't realise I'd replied to an old one haha.

TBH it suddenly got more relevant again with smasha and traktor cannons being arguably the best dakka in the codex
