Subject: Space Marines Captain Loadout?

Terminator with Assault Cannon

I am running a captain (artificer armor and power fist), a chaplain, Pedro Kantor, 4 honor guard (with maces) and a chapter champion (with a sword)...all in a rhino.
Should I go with a boltpistol or a boltgun on the captain? I was going to use a stormbolter, but I want to save the points to use for an extra missile launcher with flakk missiles.
Boltgun:
Pro: Longer range and rapidfire capabilities.
Con: Can't fire and assault in the same turn
Pistol:
Pro: can fire and assault in the same turn
Cons: Shorter range; no rapid fire capabilities; can't provide a dual wield bonus to the power fist.

First of all, why are you running a captain with almost the exact same load out as Pedro? It seems incredibly wasteful as far as points go. But as far as my advice, if I was running a captain in that situation I'd find the extra points to give him a lightning claw to go with his power fist, and then during the shooting phase i'd have that captain be my designated grenade chucking guy. You get frag and crack grenades stock and can throw one per unit in the shooting phase and still assault you lose some range, but I'm betting you will by trying to get your squad into close combat asap so extra range isn't such a huge concern.

Why are you running a Captain? Gladius? In any case, don't waste his high Init by giving him a fist. Lightning claw + Storm shield and artificer armour and bob's your uncle.

Yes, but I sometimes striking at Initiative 1 is a bad choice because he'll get killed before he can hit. Though Str8 AP2 is pretty awesome when it does get its hits in.

Giving him a fist and a pistol isn't a terrible load out. With Artificer Armor, he comes in at 135 pts. He has a 2+/4++. You can opt to use the Bolt Pistol in CC if you are challenged. That way you at least have a fighting chance in CC.
I have two captains. The first is the above setup, the other is in Artificer Armor and has a Relic Blade and a Storm Shield.

Nope, pistols aren't specialist weapons so you don't get the +1 attack bonus.

Yep, pistols aren't specialist weapons, and you have 2 melee weapons so you do get the +1 attack.
Specialist only matters when the specialist weapon is being used.

Agreed that claw is better because he will probably be aced before swinging against a dedicated cc unit, and I vote bolt pistol, don't want to accidently shoot and mess up your charge that turn.
