A Dawn of War 3 website was registered by Sega in June last year. Your friend would have signed an NDA if he did actually have any knowledge about Dawn of War 3. Information regarding Dawn of War 3 has been water-tight so it's safe to assume they are being as secretive as possible about it, if a leak occurred people would most likely be in danger of losing their jobs. Also, what have Relic been working on for the past few years since Company of Heroes 2 came out, not mentioning that I'm pretty sure they have more than one team?

Just saying. Now, it could very well be a Necron expansion or Necron Last Stand addition to Dawn of War 2....the former would be somewhat acceptable if they added in a Dark Crusade-style global conquest campaign as well, the latter would be a slap in the face....but I'd be amazed if it wasn't Dawn of War 3. Why else would that website domain have been registered?

Just to add fuel to the fire, Dawn of War 3 was being worked on as early as the Retribution release (i.e. 2013) but went through at least one revision and may have been reworked yet again since THQ folded and Relic was acquired by Sega. It's coming, it is just a matter of when, not if.
It's been five years since the last expansion for Dawn of War 2 in the form of Retribution. It's been three years since Company of Heroes 2. If this isn't Dawn of War 3, I think Sega will probably be wondering why the hell they bought Relic in the first place if all they could pump out in that time was an expansion or DLC for a seven year old game.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Oh for god's sake, it's a Necron Overlord in The Last Stand confirmed. If Relic aren't releasing a game by the end of 2017 then I'll be amazed nonetheless as it would have been 4 years from their last full release.
What a slap in the face for Dawn of War fans. "Here's a character for a multiplayer-only mode that people have difficulty finding matches for due to the game's near-dead online population, have fun!" I might have appreciated an expansion, but this? Come on.

I need a picture of an Ork Kroozer with the words "I want to believe". I have been waiting for DoW3 for so long, DoW2 is what got me into 40k and I want to play more Orks. If Bluddflagg returns with an Ork campaign ill shed tears of joy.

But in the grim dark future "Hope is the first step on the road to disappointment"

Edit: Last Stand!?! See this is why you don't have hope.

Again, they registered a Dawn of War 3 website domain in June 2015 so it probably is what they've been working on, this Necron DLC is more than likely just a stop-gap until it releases. In fact, if the original build of Dawn of War 3 had been released, the Tau DLC would have fulfilled the same role as the Necron one. At the very least we are getting some movement on the franchise. Also, the Necron DLC is free for the first five days so they won't punish the people that are still legitimately interested in playing Dawn of War 2.

Words to live by - especially when expecting a proper sequel to a 12-year old game by a bankrupt company.

But hell, wasteland 2 happened, and it was actually a lot of fun.

But then again, duke nukem forever is also a thing.

I will believe it when I see it.

Where did you see that? Completely free like the Tau Commander was for a few days or free to play for that time?

Playing mostly Necromunda and Battletech, Malifaux is awesome too!

Enduring the wait for the return of X-Com was a dark and soul crushing torture but ultimately it was worth it in the end.

The announcement post on their Facebook page. Basically, if you download the DLC within the first five days of release, you get it for free and never have to pay a cent for it - you own it forever at no cost. If you don't download it in the first five days, you'll have to pay for it.

@Kap'n Krump - Dawn of War 2 came out 7 years ago, and THQ is the bankrupt (now defunct) company, not Relic. Relic is owned by Sega, as is the Dawn of War franchise.

I'm optimistic in thinking this DLC was made mostly to get new people on the team familiar with the game series and setting. They've been ramping up a TON of social media stuff over the past year or so, pushing livestreams, let's plays, etc. for the Dawn of War games. I think they're doing a lot to test the waters right now.

Just to clarify, and so my buddy doesn't get in trouble, he wasn't telling me anything that isn't public knowledge. I believe his exact words were "Don't hold your breath for Dawn of War 3. We're going to do something eventually, but it's not in the works yet". As far as why the domain is registered, that often occurs long before a title is in development. They don't want someone else buying the domain and charging them out the ass for it when they do announce the game. And as to what Relic has been working on, he did say something about "Wait for E3 dude". My guess:

Mark Strong may be getting some more VO work soon.

That was quite the unexpected surprise. My Necron-playing buddy will be glad, I was always surprised that the elite mod guys never bothered adding new people or gear/maps for Last Stand.

That came out of nowhere...

Last Stand is great fun tho, and I am quite happy with the Tau commander I bought for it, I doubt I'll buy the Lord, but hey, its nice seeing that.

Will there be a new last stand map? I played the hell out of the two in existence and a third new one would make this more interesting.

Krieg! What a hole...

I was thinking that, too, would make the DLC more attractive and give a reason to buy it for those who don't like Necrons.

It'd be nice if they'd patch the damn game, too, IG heavy teams are broken and the Krieg DLC is a bit of a mess.

I am just too excited... I always thought about how awesome it would be if there were more heroes for Last Stand. Now we just need a Dark Eldar Archon and a Magos. And like 10 more heroes. And more maps. Just give me DoW 3 already.

It's free to those who download it for the first 5 days at least in celebration of Dawn of War 2.

Here's hoping this is leading up to a Dawn of War 3 with Necrons. I also want Tau in the expansion please! We need our new units done in glorious combat. The biggest suit ever put in a game we have is the damn XV88 Broadside. i want to see Ghostkeels, Riptides, R'varnah, Y'vahrah, and the mighty Stormsurge as a super unit.

Cheers for the reply and my apologies if I came across as rude in any way, I guess I was caught up in the Dawn of War 3 hype last night. I would imagine the Overlord is the stepping stone to Dawn of War 3, but it really stumps me as to how Relic have so little to show for the past several years. It's not Square Enix or Team ICO level with Final Fantasy 15 or The Last Guardian but it's getting there. In any case, I won't have to pay a cent for the Necron Overlord and Dawn of War 2 is still fun to play, hopefully the update improves the population as it's very difficult to find games for the Last Stand at the moment.

I think a lot of it has to do with THQ's bankruptcy. When Sega bought out half their studios, they went over everything with a fine-toothed comb. According to my buddy (who came over from THQ), productivity was rock bottom for months while everyone worried if their studio or team was going to end up as a casualty of the buy-out like Vigil (seriously, they made two pretty good games, but they were too far out on Dark Millennium, so no one wanted to buy). From my understanding, Relic as about to make a comeback in a big way! Again, I'm anxious to see what E3 is going to bring.

I guess that makes sense, it's probably a good thing that Sega didn't crack the whip for a good while as I would imagine transitioning to a new publisher isn't easy. I'm guessing we will see a trailer for Dawn of War 3 at E3, failing that I'm hoping for Space Marine 2. Of course, a Homeworld sequel would also be acceptable.
