I know what the BRB says but I heard an FAQ came out.
Quick clarification would be awesome as I'm just getting back into the game. Thanks!

Nope, nothing different about Invulnerable Saves here or here.

invul saves, cover saves and even armor can be taken against str D weapons unless the D weapon has something to remove the saves (namely most D weapons have ap 1 or 2, some are flamers) and invul saves can be taken unless the D weapon rolls a 6 on the D chart then no saves can be taken.
|
It's easy to assume that people arguing an interpretation you disagree with are just looking for an advantage for themselves... But it's quite often not the case. |

It does not, however, the FnP rule says it cannot be used on Instant Death or Destroyer weapon wounds.

You may unless the attack rolls a 6 result which specifically says "ignores all saves". Cover and invulns are taken as normal against any 2-5 result.
REMEMBER: roll saves BEFORE determining the D3 results of 2-5 results on the D table. A single failed or passed save affects all D3 wounds, AND all D3 wounds are allocated to a single model and do not spread to the rest of the unit.
Roughly half of the whining revolving D weapons I've found are people who don't understand how they work. "A wraithknight rolled a 6 and wiped out my whole TH/SS squad with no saves!!!!!"
|
"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"
"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"
"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"
"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!" |

I'd probably say that half is a conservative estimate, but otherwise this. So much this.

Yeah, against one-wound models, don't even bother rolling the dice to determine how many wounds are dealt, unless you want to gloat about just how big of a bloody smear they left behind. It only slows the game down for no reason.
That is, of course, until Forge World come up with a Volkite D weapon….
