Okay, Gentlemen and Ladies:
Simply put I want to place my Thunderer in that Cadian tank formation (Emperors steel willy formation or whatever it is called).
Now the formation calls for Leman Russ hulls. However, despite the 'Leman Russ' bit having been dropped from the name the Thunderer is still a Leman Russ chassis, as is the Laser Destroyer.
Simply put, can I use them in the formation?

The Emperor's Fist formation? Then no, as it specifically calls for Leman Russ Squadrons and neither the Thunderer or Laser Destroyer is a Leman Russ Squadron.

Formations list the armylist entries they are comprised of.

If it is not on that list, or accessed via an entry on that list(dedicated transport and the like) you cannot take it as part of the formation.

Also the emperors fist does not say anything like "Leman Russ hulls" do not misrepresent rules to skew your discussion.
