Alright so I am taking part in an escalation league and there's some rough armies. So I need a good all comers list with my guard to build up to.

I'm not sure if it would be better to go foot guard or mech.

If mech this basically gives me enough for a ccs and 2 vets in chimeras. I can get a ccs with 3 plasma and then 1 vet squad with 3 plasma and then a vet squad with 3 melta.

How would I go about a foot guard build?

I've got a wide variety of units for guard but I do not have pask In a punisher so if I use him I will have him in a vanquisher. Also I do not have forgeworld. So these units I will not be able to use.

Each week we up the games 250pts.

I've never done one of these leagues so I'm looking for whatever help I can get!

For foot guard you'd be looking at lots of Heavy Weapon Squads and Special Weapon Veterans for your heavy lifting backed up by lots and lots of scrubs. At 500 points you'd be looking at one squad of vets and one platoon for infantry. The platoon with whatever kind of heavy weapons you can get for light anti-tank. I'm not a Guard player (though I'm partial to Renegades and Heretics) so I can't say the exact points, but I think you could pull something interesting.

Best of luck for your escalation!

3000pts Blood Angels (4th Company) - 2000pts Skitarii (Voss Prime) - 2500pts Imperial Knights (Unnamed House) - 1000pts Imperial Guard (Household Retainers)

2000pts Free Peoples (Edlynd Fusiliers) - 2000pts Kharadron Overlords (Barak Zilfin) - 500pts Ironweld Arsenal (Edlynd Ironwork Federation) - 1000pts Duardin (Grongrok Powderheads)

Wargaming's no fun when you have a plan!

At 500 points, you're better off with Mechanized. Once you get up to 1,000 and beyond, foot-slogging Guard, in the hands of a good Commander, can take over games with sheer board control.

That's the thing as mechanized seems like a better options at 500 so should I just stick with this:

Ccs:
Chimera
x3 plasma

Veterans:
Chimera
x3 plasma

Veterans:
Chimera
x3 melta

Each week we add 250pts to current list so should I just then add a blob for the next week and start going foot guard?

Automatically Appended Next Post:
It ends with 1500 pts being our final list.

How are games won in this tournament? Kill points? Objectives? etc?

Objectives. I'm pretty sure it's either standard missions or the cards missions

Then by far mech vets are the best option. Obsec units and Obsec transports.

And since you will be doing mech vets You arent going to be receiving orders well.

I would consider something like

CCS w/heavy weapon (buy a transport for them next week, or run a Lord commissar so he is not a siting duck)

Vets
Grenadiers
3x Plasma

Vets Grenadiers
3xPlasma

Wyvren

I play Guard a bit, and I'd definitely say a Mech list would be a lot better than a static blob/gunline AM list for capturing objectives and such! And for low points, I never quite realized how useful a LC would be instead of a CCS for Mech lists as Tenzilla suggested! The LC would get more bodies to act as cover, no need for orders as the only thing affected by orders would be the Warlord only, the LC would be less exposed and thus not as easy as a free warlord kill! And I mean give him Emperor's Benedicition if you wish! It's cheap and guaranteed to hit and wound the majority of infantry!

The reason I like running the ccs is primarily because the ccs can order the monster/tank hunter as well as the ignores cover order.

Alright so I went for a more fun list and ended up using the following:

Tank commander:
Vanquisher

Eradicator partner:
Heavy bolters

Veterans:
x3 plasma

Veterans:
x3 melta

The list did so so as expected. Nothing great but I figured if I'm going to run a tank commander I have to try and get him in early.

Next time we bump the points up another 250 I'm going to upgrade the tank commander to pask and upgrade his hull weapon to a lascannon.

Then I'm going to give each of the veterans a chimera. And lasts I'm going to add a wyvern in.

1k list will include a ccs with a chimera and some plasma guns and maybe a hydra if points allow.
